will there be any?
will the final be shown in at least the 2 countries playing on prime time tv????
any prize money?
id like to see wales v france or something as the final.
wood be great for league in those countries IF PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT IT.
do people in these countries even know its on? is it on the news over there?
how can they expect it to help league wen they dont let everyone know its on.

hey lets go play a secret league game and then maybe people might be magically know about it.

excuse me, but are you one of these people who's going to find something to whinge about no matter what's going on??

They've said all along it was going to be a low key event.. All the diehard supporters will be there.. well some of us want to be there

..and of course there's benifits, just by staging the event this season it has a history next. The next generation of league supporter logged on today. From this moment on he or she's going to read about how their team prepared for it, how they performed at it and what their doing in his or her's home town in the search of more talent.. and how thats going to allow them to do better next year.

I bet if I look through these forums I'll find your name next to an article complaining and protesting that there's not enough international games and here we are experiencing probably the most active international calander in history and u still whinge???

Euro nations cup a great step in the right direction, I hope the final is a good tight contest involving France as the game there needs what ever shot it can get.

Bring on UTC

I've read on the RLFans International Forum that the final will be live, on Sky presumably, but for other coverage I'm not sure, I'd guess there will be a few highlights here and there.

There must be some, but I doubt it's much.

The competition gets the occasional one-sentence paragraph in the rah-rah dominated media, next to women's lacrosse or billiards. A combination of the timing and entering an England A team downgrades the comp straight away in the eyes of the media, because what coverage there is focuses on the serious business of the coming Ashes series. Besides they're all spending fortunes covering the world penalty kicking championships.

hahaha you keep looking then, you will be looking for a while.
i wasnt whinging, i was simply curious about some aspects of the euro nations that i wasnt aware of.
i think asking about whether its on tv or not is a fair question, dont shoot me down when you dont know my intentions

Man, with no intention of changing.

I didn't think you were whinging, just raising the same questions that many RL fans in the UK have.

Oh!!!

Well I just read it again and it still sounds like a whiiineee.. but its all good. I just want Wales to do well and win the thing. Then when we beat the Aussies this weekend we'll be 'the roo hunters', the only amature home nation champions and inagural ENC champs too.. sounds to me like the start of an era... GO THE DRAGONS

The final will be live on BSkyB. The France V Scotland game will be shown live throughout France on Sport+ and if France make the final I assume Sport+ will televise that as well.

I don't think there is any prize money, though don't forget the RFL is pretty much funding the match and paying the players, so I think for most of them, that is more than enough. Don't forget most players in the UK wanted the chance to play for the home nations, they aren't silly they know they have a better chance to make the GB side.

Also they know if the tournaments are made a success, well they have both played their part in history, and next could one day be playing in front of large crowds in the different nations.

Buried on their website, the RFL has explained what the European Nations is about:
The tournament will enable England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to continue the development of their own identities as Rugby League playing nations. It will also provide an important international shop window for players to demonstrate their skills and abilities which both the RFL and the RLEF believes is hugely important.

Commenting on the European Nations Cup, the RFL Executive Chairman - and the Chairman of the Tournament - Richard Lewis said: "The staging of the inaugural European Nations Cup is an historic moment for Rugby League. This is the first year in a plan to develop and enhance the sport at this level and the intention is to continue to invest in the international calendar each year and therefore see the matches grow in scope an stature.

Full article here.

More from from rleague

This tournament isn’t meant to be Rugby League’s answer to compete against the likes of Rugby Union’s 6 Nations or Soccer’s Euro tournaments, it is meant to lay the foundation so say by the next time a Rugby League World Cup comes around (with either 2007 or 2008 looking likely) there can be an Irish team which isn’t just brought together other night, a Welsh team which has played together before and a Scottish team which has a nice mix of locals and journeymen.

Some people have already asked the RFL why hasn’t the tournament been heavily promoted and been played at huge venues and so on, the answer to that is, the RFL are taking the steps to ensure that in 5 or 10 years time, this tournament is still around. League has seen enough flash in the pan concepts and I’m sure most fans are sick of it.
