Benji Marshall

I watched the interview with him and his 3 Tigers colleagues picked to play for NZ and it was great to see a young kid (actually all of them) talk about how he rated playing for NZ over anything Origin has to offer. Hopefully Karmichael Hunt was watching.

To see these young kids come through from a club not normally looked upon as a club with rep talent is a fine kudos to whoever is the talent scout at the Tigers. Last year the sleeping giant from up north awoke maybe the one in Sydney will this year.

He actually sent out a bit of a challenge I believe to Hunt, saying something along the lines of...."I hope he changes his mind...........How good would it be with him at fullback for the kiwis with all us other young fellas"

Excellent point.

Benji also made the call to Hunt to change his mind about playing for Australia, which was great to see. Very well spoken lad.

As for whether we will wake up, only time will tell. IMO this weeks match is a big, big test. If we can win up there and make it 4 in a row (something we've never done before) then I am going to get really excited and I'm sure a whole lot of other people are as well.

I've got to say Benji Marshall is probably one of the most level headed down to earth 20yo to ever play the game.

He ignores the hype, doesnt take himself too seriously but at the same time has that intelligence and poise that seperate him from so many other hyped rookies.

It's these qualities that seperate him from the likes of Hunt,Benji is his own man,he decided to play for the Kiwis because he knew it was the right thing to do,i bet deep down he resents the way Hunt turned his back on his country in favour of his club coach's want.

As a Tigers supporter i wasnt alone in noting these other non football qualities of Benji,we knew it was these qualities that would see him live up to the hype,we knew this kid had that something special.

Talented footballers come along every season, every now and then they are aslo exceptional human beings,it's from this select group the game is rewarded with its true superstars.

Benji Marshall your destined for greatness, and you bloody deserve it ;-)

Benji deserves a pat on the back for wanting to play for New Zealand.
That little K.Hunt should follow suit, and do the same, cos he's probably got more of a chance to play for NZ than for origin!

Seriously though, if more of these players put their hands up for international rep duties, over a national series like Origin (to which they shouldn't be eligible for) then International Rugby League would become a more competetive and higher profile sport.
For too long the fans have blasted International League as a lop-sided joke in favour of the Aussies.
There are so many talented young Kiwis coming up in the ranks that future ANZAC clashes could rival Origin in intensity!
This would serve to raise the international profile of the sport, which seems to be the reason so many deadshits are turning to that lousy 'Yawnion' crap!

I also think Bronson Harrisson deserves a big pat on the back for putting his hand up to play for the Kiwis. I went to school with Bronson and he has probably lived in Australia for a longer period then NZ, but he still doesn't forget where his heritage is and that's where his heart lies! Well done Bronson!

He's lived a good 3/4 of his life here I'd say, but he certainly has shown where his loyalty is. Good on both those lads.

And Car'n Kiwis!
