Benji states he will play risk free footy

Heard on the sports news the other day that Benji has said he won't be playing any razzle dazzle footy so as not to put his team at any risks leading up to and throughout the finals.

personally I think this is just a ludicrous thing to come out and say. Part of the problem teams have with Benji is his unpredicatability.

If he truly is going to play this style, I wouldn't be surprised if opponents just run a lock and centre at Benji in defence all day and suffocate him or force his hand.

I can recall reading the article (in SMH I think). I was more of the opinion he was going to try to tone down the more obvious brain explosions eg that flick pass the other week to no-one. I was of the impression everything else about Benjo would remain same in terms of unpredictability.

I dont expect his game to change much, if at all.

It was more of a "Im trying to pick my chances a bit better" The media just needed a bit more of a catching headline.

I thought he reigned it in a touch last week, and as a result it was by far one of his better games in the past few months. It wasn't conservative, but he wasn't pushing that last flick pass, or going for the crazy chip kick as he has done recently.

lol As Gus said with a laugh last week.... " He cant help himself " Im happy for him to be the player he is and also if the guys around him are on the ball it will help limit what benji does going bad because altho he does some crazy things that would never work he also does some crazy things that would be tries if the guys around him are ready for it..... just like hodgo and ritchards were. But yeah tone it down a tad i could live with :)

It's ridiculous that last week was his best game in months... because he was too sick to come up with the dumb stuff.

I dont see it changing his game much if at all just avoiding the brain explosions where possible but its what makes him great he does stuff others cant and off course it wont always come off but this year he has been up their with Carney as the best attacking players in the game. One thing that always surprises me is the critcism of his chip kicks to me they work more often then not - I would think he regathers prob 65% of them at least and the others give us a chance most of the time generally I think the chips are worth the risk even if some other bits arent always

Chip kick works well sometimes, if not for anything else it keeps the opposing fullback from playing too deep and that compliments a long kicking game.

The chip kicks no one want to see are the ones he tries in our own half after we've been under the pump.

If i recall correctly in last years game V Melbourne he tried one on our 20 after defending our line for several sets, he did regather and threw a no look pass to Robbie who dropped it under the pressure of 3 defenders. (correct me if my memory is playing up)

It does not help anyone in the team (playing as a team)when one of the weekest defenders, in the last few seasons anyway, keeps giving the opposition the ball. Its careless and the players need to have a really good confident attitude towards his attack to stand there and constantly bust their balls in defence because 1 player gives the opposition the ball more than any other.

Regather 65% of the time or kick into the corner 100% of the time.

Like i said it has its benifits but i would be happy to not see it again this season......Oh OK maybe in the GF.

Benji toning things down is tragic news.
One of my favourite players. The NRL needs more Benjis.

Benji could not tone things down even if he wanted to.He is such a naturally gifted talent with an incredibly quick football brain albeit far to quick for his team mates at times.Impulse & unpredictability are skills which have made him what he is today.I rate

Dont know what happened there but I rate Benji in the top 3 in this competition on his day.He will be unable to tone things down & rightly so.

I think benji is is trying to find the happy medium of playing within the structure and the game plan and using the "off the cuff" type stuff.

Robbie was interviewed on NRL Tactics on foxsports during the week and he said the Sheens is happy for him to use the flashy stuff so long as it has been practised in training

seriously, cant see him putting stuff like this back in his bag when the big games are on

Crazy. The stuff Benji comes up with can't be practiced.

Benji is brilliant. The flick pass to set up his own try. Positioned himself perfectly outside Farrah for his (I think) third try.
Just relaying what i heard......
