Bennett back to Broncos in 2011?

In a perfect world that would be true...unfortunately for the rest of the NRL clubs, there is a small thing called the '3rd party payment' and the wide array of 'non club sponsors' (including the *cough* Thoroughbreds *cough*) that the Broncos have...so in other words they could quite 'legally' slot in Boyd at fullback in 2012 and Schubert can't do a thing about it.

Id say the Broncos cap will be pretty close to full for next year and will be losing players when contracts run out.

Gains, losses and re-signings for all clubs: http://www.leagueunlimited.com/article.php?newsid=20114

If Bennett wants to go home, I'd imagine he'd do so with the full blessings of everyone involved with Saints, fans included. He spends an awful lot of time away from home in order to coach us, and I don't think anyone would begrudge him wanting to head home, especially now that it is mission accomplished. Some thigns do matter more than football.

It is all about to unravel on Sunday

When the St George supporters try to turn on Bennett after the game

Dr.J said:
So when the Saints are waiting for the press conference to hear St Wayne explain why they couldn't score points in the Grand Final

Dr.J said:
At least for 2011 St George can look around for a coach that is prepared to let Gasnier see more ball
LOL.
The intro was a bit of a piss take
Sure, you keep telling yourself that.
Dr.J said:
but if you put two and two together then there is a fair chance something could be happening.
Well you're batting well so far.

And FTR, this rumour that Bennett is heading back to Qld in 2011 has been doing the rounds for months now. Don't try to claim it as your own, you've just heard the same gossip as everyone else.

If or when Bennett does depart, he'll do so on his own terms.

Good to see I am being bagged by one set of Dragons supporters for allegedly completely making up a rumour with no substance whatsoever and by a different Dragons supporter for rehashing a rumour that everyone reckons has been around for months.

Yet again I'll congratulate the Dragons on being the best team of the year for the season overall and on Grand Final day.

I'll also congratulate Wayne Bennett for being the best coach of all time. But I reserve the right to put a small asterix next to his coaching. His last two Grand Final wins (Broncos 2006 and Dragons 2010) have come on the back of the two most unbalanced refereeing performances in GFs for the last decade. I'll admit I got it wrong suggesting that the Roosters would win because Archer would keep his whistle in his pocket. I thought Saints would probably get the rub of the green, but not to the extent of the refs ignoring five Dragons infringements that led to tries and then finding a forward pass from nowhere to deny a Roosters try.

Bennett is also a specialist in assembling a team roster with the players earning more money than other teams. He did it for years with the Thoroughbreds topping up the salaries at the Broncos. Now he knows he is on limited time at the Dragons, it makes every sense to be getting Gasnier for free in a year that he is coaching them, then back-ending his contract so that some other poor b-stard has to pay him the overs after Bennett has flown the coop back to Brisbane (where of course he'll have News Limited owned Storm paying for News Limited owned Broncos Greg Inglis contract).

Bitter much ?

Did Bennett have anything to do with the Canterbury, Melbourne or Canberra teams which were caught over the cap ?

Hope you guys are just as happy when he signs Darius Boyd at the Broncos for less money than he is on at St George, with the balance being made up by outside business interests in Brisbane that claim to have no association with the Broncos and St George explain they were forced to let him go because they are paying Gasnier's 2010 salary at the back end.

If one referee-enhanced premiership is enough for you guys, good luck to you.

What do you note about this quote? Here is St George Illawarra coach Wayne Bennett after the club's triumph:

"This premiership is really about the true believers. They believed this year. They weren't sure last year but they believed this year. They believed they could win and they believed they could beat anyone they played. Being down at half-time wasn't an issue for them this year; last year it was … It's been 31 years since they won a premiership. In Brisbane we went three or four years maximum after we won it in '92 … They're much maligned, they feel the pain, the players, the criticism. It was a very emotional victory lap there tonight."

Do you see? St George Illawarra, the club he has coached for the past two years is very much "they", while Brisbane is still "we." Yes, Bennett is the best coach in the game, but his head space is still north of the Tweed , and you'd have to think that is where he will be back to before long.

If we're using the media to try and guess Bennett's intentions, there's this article about the 2011 draw:

...handing the Dragons seven out of their opening eight matches away from home.
But this was no oversight. The Dragons, requested that the majority of the opening months of competition be played away with both their home grounds either undergoing substantial redevelopment or potentially having work done.
...
But Doust said coach Wayne Bennett, who has given the Dragons a premiership in his second season with the club, had been canvassed about the schedule and agreed to it.

some11, can you explain why you edited out portions of that quote where Bennett said "we" in reference to Saints?

You know, there's reading too much into quotes, then there's embellishing them to try and mislead people.

Here is the full quote, without any of your "..." breaks:

"This premiership is really about the true believers," Bennett said. "They believed this year. They weren't sure last year, but they believed this year and that's the difference.

"They believed they could win and they believed they could beat anybody they played.

"Being down at halftime wasn't an issue. Last year it was. We (the coaching staff) got it right off the field and they got it right on the field."

"I'm so happy for these guys," Bennett said. "There are a number of players here who have been through difficult times and they didn't know when it was going to come.

"But I didn't walk into a club that was a basket case. I just managed to put a few little things to it. I just helped them get where they wanted to go and they deserve it and we don't have to worry about all the rubbish (of being alleged chokers), going forward.

"To their credit, the players bought into the approach we took to it. But certainly you wouldn't want to coach the team the way you read about them.
"They were much maligned before I arrived. But they were a much better team than I thought they were and (previous coach) Nathan Brown did a really good job with them."

And it goes on like that. More here:
http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/nrl/st-george-illawarra-coach-wayne-bennett-says-grand-final-win-a-victory-for-true-believers/story-e6frep5x-1225933582360

By saying "they", he is clearly praising the players - Bennett believes the players are deserving of the praise. By saying "we" he is referring to the entire club: the coaching and administration staff. He says this for both Brisbane and St George.

So was there a reason why you chose to remove the 'we" references to Saints, omit a reference link. Were you putting your own spin on it?

lol. My apologies some11. Looks like you were simply believing crummy media. That's one of the reasons why we need links.

No surprise to see it was Peter Fitzsimons, union hack. Selecting quoting, and sprung!

Although I did like the cartoon...

radio reporting a rumour that he is extending with saints for 3 years
Yep. But wouldn't put much stock in it just yet.

It's no secret the club has been making offers, and no surprise that Creeping would be thinking about it.

I have heard someone from Cronulla Sharks has been telling people Wayne Bennett will leave Dragons next year and Ricky Stuart will be taking over. Be another 30 odd years before we win a premiership if this bloke was to take over.
