All good in theory, but 3 words. Gold Coast Titans.

That wasa mis-step by the previous NRL administration - remember the Gold Coast Dolphins (as the bid was pitched), Central Coast Bears, and Perth Reds were all vying for that spot..and they chose the GC despite the track record of failure there just because they were spooked by the AFL's plans for the GC.

In hjndsight, the best move would've been to bring in Perth instead of the Titans - but the decision was made, and the current NRL administration hve to make the best of it.

Although the rumours of a rebrand to the Gold Coast Bears (in red & black) are probably just smoke, it would be a canny rebrand - especially if North Sydney & Burleigh Bears are onboard too.

It also opens the Central Coast up as a relocation destination for a current Sydney NRL club that doesn't want to move out of NSW.

rubbish, the Gold Coast had the best case for a team then and if they were up against Perth now they would still win out, if an NRL club can't be sustainable on the Gold Coast, it sure as shit won't be in Perth.

Poor management was the Titans downfall, not the Gold Coast.

Huh?
It was GC, CC and some half-hearted attempt from NZ.
NRL rejected all of them, the GC went back to improve their bid and lobbied harder until they got it.

Fumbleball had zero to do with it.

And ftr the Titans were pretty f**king successful for a new club with no concessions given to them by the NRL. Big crowds, attractive football and made a prelim final within a couple of years.
Things only went downhill when they started building the CoE out of their own pocket and the GFC hit.

Central Coast has always been open for a relocation, CC Bears are never getting in and the sooner someone lets the know the better. All the time the NRL is propping the 9 Sydney clubs up there will be no need for relocation. At the moment there is still too much power with the clubs and the NRL are afraid to do anything dramatic so they will continue to throw money at them in the hope they may come good, all the time telling us that there is no chance of expansion due to rocky clubs.

Yeah, you are right.

Clubs like the Knights and the Titans do make a dificult case for expansion. Considering that both Joint ventures are also being propped up and the spectaculqr failure of the beagle further messing with Sydney woule be unwise.

yep other codes recognise any new club, be it in heartland or new territory is going to need assistance. NRL (see Gallop) just thought they could plonk a club in an area that had already struggled a number of times and somehow it would be different. Thank god News Ltd kept the Storm afloat through its NRL payment otherwise I very much doubt they would still be around.
