Newtons return would deadset kill my interest in rugby league. I struggle to watch us play now due to our incompetence and boring style of play. Adding Newton would be the final straw. I will stop watching until he and Bennett are gone.

If newton signs, I WILL pack up all my jerseys and membership cards, and mail them to Knights HQ with a note saying that I refuse to support the team while Newton is part of the club.

Such is my hate for that one individual

I'm not sure I'd quite go that far, but then again ...

It was a while ago when Newton left the club, so does anyone want to rehash what he did to the knights?

From memory, it stemmed from him wanting to sign a new contract. The knights held off for an extended period whilst they signed other players. He stopped feeling valued and didn't feel that the knights considered him a priority so he left (identical to Beau Ryan). After leaving Newton and his old man bagged out the club.

Am I somewhat on the money?

^ To me the point is that he knew he wouldn't be getting a contract here for the following year. Melbourne offered him a contract for the rest of 2007 but also told him that he wouldn't be getting a contract there for the following year. He jumped ship anyway in order to win a comp. All the while this was happening he bagged us out to the media any chance he got, basically saying that it was his right to get a new contract here because he was a Newcastle junior. Instead of copping it on the chin like the other blokes that were told they wouldn't be retained that year, he (and his father) pissed off and cried to the media every chance they got.

I reckon Benny would understand the vitriol Knights fans have towards Clint Newton and make sure he was never coming back.

If that f***ing traitor plays with us again the club will not see a single cent out of me while he is there. I've been a member for 17 years, but that will do me. How on earth can we consider taking him on again after everything he and his father has done to the club?

The funniest thing was how he kept bagging the Knights after he left in 2007 and won the GF with the Storm in 2007, then 3 yrs later the Storm had their 2007/2009 premierships stripped. So, Newton's 2007 "premiership" doesn't count anymore.:lol:Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked in! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.....not. I absolutely have no sympathy for people like him. Brett Finch is another pea-heart (who also had a father in the similar mould to Clint Newton's) who did the same thing to his old club when he jumped ship and won a premiership with the Storm in 2009. Again, that premiership was all for nought when they got busted in 2010. The bottom line: Karma is a bitch

And I concur with those who posted about what Clint and his father have done to the club. That shouldn't be forgotten either. I will never forget his peahearted performances right up until our club's worst ever defeat (which was coincidentially also his last game before he spat the dummy and buggered off without notice) but stayed on for weeks just so he could get to his 100th match before bailing out. Newton is worse than SBW.

So, to Bring it Home Knights, in answer to your question, the issue wasn't that Newton went to the Storm after Brian Smith told him that his contract would not be renewed. The issue is THE WAY he went about it. He - like many other Knights players - put in pea-hearted performances culminating in that 65-pt loss vs Bris。 Clint stays on just to get to 100 games before bolting. THEN after he left, both him and his father (who was one of the prominent White Knights), with the help of the Telegraph and Newcastle Herald, started the sack Brian Smith campaign (remember that letter that 7 yr old girl supposedly wrote? HAHAHAHA!) which went on for months and completely unsettled the whole club (not to mention Kirk Reynoldson getting into bed with the Telegraph as well. Look what happened to him after he went to the Dragons). It caused much more damage to the club than initially thought. And yes, it was definitely karma when the Storm got busted and had their premierships stripped. When it happened, the first thing I thought of was Clint Newton:lol: (as I remembered his antics post-GF win)

Oh, and whilst I'm at it, remember this brain-dead prediction from him about the Super League going to take over the NRL as the premier RL competition?

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/491693/clint-newton-tips-uk-super-league-to-surpass-nrl/

Yeah Clint, so, what do you think of the SL now in 2013 with massive drop-offs in crowd figures (take a look at the London Broncos, being the only team in their city yet averaging home crowds around 2k), players wanting to come out and play in Australia/NZ, clubs on the brink of bankruptcy (as the RFL still continues to pander to the same 4 clubs who really are the only genuine premiership contenders and the only ones who have ever won the Super League, a la English Premier League style) and ANOTHER restructuring of the competition is being planned within as many years?

I won't watch any Knights game that Clint Newton is a part of, and i certainly wont be tipping any money into the club for the entirety of his stay if he comes. Traitorous merkin of the highest order.

But, as evidenced by the departure of bona fide superstars and representative players the calibre of Sonny Bill Williams, Mark Gasnier, Danny Buderus and Trent Barrett, the Australian game's elite players are vulnerable to approaches from Super League and European rugby union clubs.

lol and every single one of those players have come back to the NRL.

Wow, what an absolute fantasy article.

Oh an I concur with most in here. If that merkin is signed by the Knights, Ill not be involved in the Knights as a club for the duration of his contract and probably find it difficult to come back afterwards

Reni Maitua Ricky Stuart Sydney England

Co-captain Reni Maitua has revealed his "relief" to have been shown the door at Parramatta but has turned down a mid-season offer at another NRL club to stay loyal to his teammates.

Maitua told Fairfax Media he had been thinking about leaving the Eels before Ricky Stuart included him in the mass clean-out, but his gratitude to the club for giving him a second chance after he was suspended from the game, as well as his relationship with his teammates, kept him in blue and gold.

"I spoke to a club about moving on this week," Maitua said. "But I don't think it would've been fair and it's not how I was brought up as a person. I wouldn't want to abandon the boys through this tough period. Everyone's hurting, there's no point getting up and running away from all of it.

"It's a tough period for the club and it's just as tough for the players. I didn't want to abandon the boys. I'm really close to these boys and I've never met a bunch of blokes who are so close. There are no clicks within the team. Morally it wouldn't have been right. I wouldn't abandon any of mates any time, whether that's in sport or in general life."

The 31-year-old is on the lookout for a club capable of winning a premiership in the next two years, preferably in Sydney, and has indicated he won't join another team in a rebuilding phase.

The thought of leaving Parramatta was a notion he had been considering long before Stuart told him to pack his bags, and admitted he was relieved to have the decision taken out of his hands.

"I did take the news pretty tough but to be honest it was a bit of a relief as well," he said. "It's something [leaving] that had been on my mind and consuming me as well. It's not fun. I'm going two-and-a-half years here and it hasn't just been a thing from this year.

"We've lost a lot of games here in two-and-a-half years and Ricky saw that it was affecting me and overtaking me as a person. We had a great conversation and it was just time to move on."

Maitua insists there is no bad blood between him and the coach, despite sitting out the round 13 game against the Roosters to come to terms with his axing just a few days earlier.

The former Bulldogs premiership winner said he was given the respect by the coach, who organised a meeting with Maitua to inform him of his plans before he fronted the rest of the team.

"Ricky and I had a great conversation and gave me the respect of telling it how it was," Maitua said. "Anyone that's honest with you, you respect that kind of stuff. There were no hard feelings. Ricky could see that I was getting very frustrated and down at training, and that's probably showing on the field a bit. He thought it would be time to move on for my well being. We had a long discussion about retirement, England or moving on somewhere else in Sydney.

"Ricky gave me the respect to call me in the office before the meeting, so I was prepared for what was to come. Whether or not I think it is right or not is irrelevant. That's how Ricky wanted to do it, and that was that."

Maitua said he considered retiring but his two-year hiatus from the game for failing a drugs test had rejuvenated his passion for the game. "Retirement was a massive part of my thoughts and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find a club here and I didn't want to go over to England," Maitua said.

"I still think I'm playing good enough of footy to be of value to a club. I would've retired by now for sure if it wasn't for that break. I needed that time away from the game, they were obviously difficult circumstances, but I needed to get away because things were spiralling out of control.

"I would've been retired by now so I'm lucky enough to be still playing now. I'm confident I can get two more years out of my body."

Geez Maitua has tickets on himself.

He wants to join a club who will win a comp in the next two years and doesn't want to join a club that's rebuilding.

He's 31 with a chequered career, coming from a team that's going like a busted. I'm not sure that he is in a position of negotiating strength.

I reckon he's trying to sound out Craig Bellamy who is well known for recruiting players that no other coach would give the time of day for (e.g. Adam Woolnough, Brett Finch, Jason Ryles, Jaiman Lowe, Troy Thompson).
