Pretty varied range of artists, but the Brass Monkey at Cronulla always has some pretty good artists going through.

Found this by accident but yeah there's a blues bar at Enmore down past the servo that's pretty cool. Unfortunately it's inhabited by hipsters drinking their $3 Pabst Blue can and nibbling on nuts and the service is god awful slow thanks to the hipsters working behind the bar who prefer to talk than serve but it's pretty chilled always good blues in the background and live acts every now and then.

Yeah I know but this is extra hipster. Something about cheap, watered down American "beer" that brings them out.

Randomly the place is supposed to be well known for their hotdogs which between the hotdogs and nuts is all the food they serve

If you are willing to fight the crowds Baxter inn (which is considered the best small bar in the city possibly Australia by the type of person who likes small bars) while not really a live music place does play jazz music as its era themed.

Palmer and co is another one. Although they do have live music.

edit

keep in mind those places are trendy as f**k so the typical warning about that kind of place. Busy as hell on weekends, expensive, full of hipsters. Timeout consistently ranks Baxter the best venue in Sydney so you can imagine the type of crowd they get.

I've never got in to Baxter's. every time we've gone we've waited in line for 15-25 minutes then left. Red Oak across the road is great if you like boutique beer.

The Botany View Hotel in Newtown hosts the Sydney Blues Society jam once a month on a Sunday evening.

4 hours of pretty awesome musicians.
