no starting unit touches that squad.

not even

Iverson
Bryant
Stojakovic
J. Oneal
Camby/Ilgauskas

it would be a good game

The 84's would smoke em!!!!!!

No-one can guard Jordan. Camby/Illagauskas can't guard Hakeem!!!! The only struggle would be Perkins or Barkley guarding Stojakovic, but I still reckon Stojakovic is overrated. And he wouldn't get much ball alongside Iverson and Bryant anyway  .

were you smoking something when you typed that? 1996 vs 1984?

Jordan
Hakeem
Stockton
Barkley

that 4 there we are talking as 4 of the top 50 players of all time.
1996 cannot...repeat... cannot touch 1984.

I would even put 1985 draft ahead of 1996 with
Karl Malone
Ewing
Joe Dumars
Chris Mullin
Charles Oakley
detlef schrempf

If thats him he did stunts on an Ewok film

Yes that's him. I knew I'd read that somewhere, though I see now he wasn't the main Chewbacca in the films.

Yes Mark played Chewbacca.

Coach Larsen: Sorry to take your time, but I have a crazy question for you, or really for Coach McNamara. I think I remember reading in Sports Illustrated that he worked on a movie once where he played some big creature in a costume. I thought it was Chewbacca in Star Wars.

Did he work in a movie like that, and if so which one?

By the way, I am a high school teacher and basketball coach in Ontario, Canada.

Thanks if you are able to pass my question on and get a reply.

I emailed the head coach of the college where McNamara is an assistant coach, and he replied that Mark did indeed play Chewbacca. I guess it was only in a TV movie, according to imdb.

Another strong draft - 1983:

1983 DRAFT
*Choice awarded to Cleveland to replace draft choices traded by
previous ownership

First Round
1 Hous Ralph Sampson
2 Ind Steve Stipanovich
3 Hous Rodney McCray
4 SD Byron Scott
5 Chi Sidney Green

7 Utah Thurl Bailey
8 Det Antoine Carr
9 Dall Dale Ellis
10 Wash Jeff Malone
11 Dall Derek Harper
12 NY Darrell Walker

14 Port Clyde Drexler

19 SA John Paxson
20 Clev Roy Hinson

Second Round
6 Dall Mark West
7 Atl Glenn Rivers

After weeding out the chaff, all the above players had good long careers. (Except Sampson and Stipanovich were cut short by injuries.)

The drafts from 1980-85 were outstanding, and 86 and 87 had some individual gems too.

attamarap...

1985 would beat 1986.
Malone, Ewing, mullin in their primes can account for 1986.
1996 is too selfish for my liking with Bryant and Iverson.

Charlie, you mean to say 1996, not 1986, right?

Here's one of the best drafts from earlier years.

1970 DRAFT

First Round
1 Det Bob Lanier - HOF
2 SD Rudy Tomjanovich
3 Atl Pete Maravich - HOF
4 Bos Dave Cowens - HOF, 2 championships with Celtics
5 Cin Sam Lacey - long career with Royals/Kings

7 Clev John Johnson - started on Sonics 79 champs
8 Port Geoff Petrie
13 LAL Jim McMillian - started on Lakers 72 champs

Second Round
1 SD Calvin Murphy - 2 great little men here
2 Cin Nate Archibald

Third Round
1 SD Curtis Perry
6 Sea Garfield Heard

Seventh Round
1 SD Bill Paultz
4 Bos Charlie Scott

Eighth Round
3 Det Dan Issel

The draft used to go to about 16 rounds, believe it or not. The last 3 guys were very good players, especially Scott and Issel, but were drafted low because they had already signed with the rival ABA.

Every guy on this list won an NBA title or played in the finals, except Lanier, Maravich, Lacey, Petrie, and Issel. And Issel played on the ABA champion Kentucky Colonels.
