I would have to have Kel at prop and Lewie (Mortimer) at 6, leave Desy out and Brandi at 7. I would have Lewis at lock and big Graham McKay on the pick and swing. Otherwise this is a very good side.

No spots for Glenn West, Kevin Dann, Terry Wickey, Zac Ole, I could go on.

Did Des Hasler even play first grade for us or only Under 23's. Cant remember. Surely the immortal Terry Wickey would place in front of Des.

Des played 2 games in 1982 (1 game on bench) and 10 games in 1983 in first grade,so he doesn't really qualify with only 12 games under his belt.

Simmonds is the all time favourite Panther hooker, but IMO, a special mention goes to Steve Martin.

I think he still holds the record for most tries by a hooker in a single season.

Steve Martin was a genius in attack out of dummy half and yes, still holds the record for most tries as a hooker, back in the days when hookers actually hooked for the ball in the scrum.

On current form you'd nearly have to have Austin or Graham on the bench.

Remember, the likes of Wesser, McKay, McIndoe, Girdler, Galuvao, Whaturira, Benny Ross, Marty Lang, Roycie Simmons etc, etc, etc, aren't local juniors.

This is a thread about kids that played between the Blue Mountains and Blacktown/Windsor etc that went on to play FG for the riff.

Was Terry Dollar Geary a local?
I still think he was the best prop ever to play with us!

Thinking back over nearly 50 years of Panthers that I have watched, whilst it is good to try and isolate just those that were born and bred in the district perhaps players that came to Penrith without having played for any other 'NRL' club should be considered.
Roycey played only for Penrith, Tim Sheens was the same, Graham Moran, Steve Carter, Barry Walker, the list goes on. They were Panthers through and through, and despite playing their junior football elsewhere nobody else could realistically claim them.
Just a thought!

Thinking back as I do sometimes, what is the earliest recollections people have of the Panthers?
My Father said he took me to a game in 67, but my earliest memory is Laurie Fagan kicking a field goal to beat his former team, the Tigers, 19-18 in 1968.
This started my support of the Panthers with an unbroken run of attendances at Penrith Park - Stadium from 1969 to 1988. I missed one game that year, and since then have missed less than 10 games at home.
I now have one son and daughter who are as fanatical as I am.

A true Panther fan. My earliest memories are us making the final of the Amco Cup and Kevin Dann being our star player back in the 70's.

The first home game, against Newtown. A 16-10 win. Sitting in the tiny uncovered stand. And the following home game, the famous 24-12 win over the mighty St George, premiers for the last 11 years.

We only won 5 games that year, those two, both games against the Sharks, and a win against Manly. All our wins were at home, except against the Sharks. Still, it was regarded as a very successful first season and we were competitive pretty much every game, except the game where Sattler put Fagan out of the game and we got a nasty hiding. Even that game was scoreless until midway through the first half and only 2 tries were conceded in the first half, but the Rabbitohs were a champion side and they ran riot in the latter stages.
