Best pack in 2012?

Pretty much every team has a "good pack" - Melbourne's is the weakest on paper but Cameron Smith makes a massive difference, not to mention the Bellamy factor.
Hard to say who has the best, so I'll just comment on mine.
Great depth, great prop-rotation, good balance in the second-row, though we miss a good line-breaking edge forward.
Yeah I was just thinking that. Salary cap has had a pretty big impact on their forwards. Melbourne are lucky they were allowed to keep the elite spine which makes all players around them perform better.

The Sharks pack is more balanced now, and not just relying on Snowden Douglas and Gallen.

I would rate us top 5 in the pack potential, but the best back in the game would have to be the Broncs.

Apart from James Graham, I dont see anything to get excited about from the dogs point of view.

Agree with Sharkies pack is very well balanced now though the loss of douglas and snowden isn't replaced with gibbs and ross or fifita.

Still a good pack.

Dogs pack is pretty good mate Tolman should crack origin, Graham is a gun, Ennis is the origin hooker.

Pritchard was pretty good for us and look forward to seeing what Des can do with him. If he can make Tony Williams play half consistent then struth Pritchard is far more dangerous.

Eastwood needs to put in this year and hopefully has a injury free year.

Halatau was good for us last year found some 2005 form, Stagg looked like he refound the form that got him lock of the year again once Moore was gone.

Kasiano looked the goods at the back end and won't have to start.

Taupau looks exciting, Payne showed what he can do.

Browne/Gavet alot of big talk for what they are able to do aswell.

I'm sorry but the Dogs pack is shit. Tolman is good but extremely overrated, Graham is soft and will be found out big time, Pritchard can play when he wants to but is rarely sighted, and you have nobody who's any good to play lock.

Ennis is decent but can't be relied on in pressure situations. Eastwood and Stagg will have to improve a lot over last season because they were utter trash.

LOL, mate your way off on tolman ennis and graham (i'm assuming you didnt even watch aus vs england, graham was the 2nd best on field, behind the best forward in the game in gallen) as far as metres made, hitups, tackles and he had much more time off the field. pretty good effort to complete overshadow scott, shillington, galloway etc. anyway pritchard was pretty good for us last year and with des i think will only further improve, eastwood agree was shit but due to his injuries and fitness ill give him the benefit of the doubt based on his form prior to those problems.

Stagg was rated lock of the year in 2009, hardly a shit no body.

The rest are kids and did pretty well, par payne and halatau who both had pretty good years.

I bet you would of cut off your left nut to have any of them in the raiders pack this year, talk about over rated.

Some facts from aus vs england below:

Gallen
ran 141m
43 tackles
21 hit ups

Graham
134m
19 hit ups
35 tackles

peacock ran for 62m
ellis 64m
matt scott 46m
galloway and shillington 40 odd metres

Really? I highly rate Heighington, makes alot of good runs, hits alright, tackles his ass off. I'd love him at the dogs mate.

Rhino is an honest toiler and a hard working player but he makes minimal impact. He may work hard but that work is all about quantity and not quality. He may make metres but never makes a dent or break in a defensive line and he is very easily stopped. He might also make alot of tackles none of them sting or hurt.

You would love him at the Dogs because I have to agree with most in saying that on paper the Dogs pack is really average. Graham looks a fine player and is a great buy (Skeepe is full of crap about him and calling him soft is ridiculous) but there is not much else aside from him.

Tolman is like Heighington: a hard worker but makes minimal impact. Stagg is a defensive player and a defender only, he is useless in attack. Pritchard is hot and cold and most times lazy and disinterested. Ennis is one dimensional...the rest? Halatau? Payne?

I'll give you Eastwood who is a good player when fit and Kasiano looks like he could be a very good player but who else is there? Hardly seems like a great pack to me.

needs a poll.

last year everyone rated canberra as the best pack and they ended up being statistically the worst by a fair margin and played like a bunch of skirts.

And the Raiders still have a great pack.

To be honest I fancy most teams have a great pack. Whether they perform or not is another issue.

Not that this pack is ever on the field at the same time, but Souths will probably go with:

8. Luke Burgess
9. Issac Luke
10. Roy Asotasi
11. Sam Burgess
12. Dave Taylor
13. Michael Crocker

Pettybourne, Clark, Geddes, Peats, Lowe, Tyrrell for the bench positions.

Fair pack but I wouldn't call it the best in the competition.

Who can say. Looks like most packs are pretty tough. As a knights fan we have a big , fast and strong side from one to 17. Dane Laurie under Bennett could be a factor.

Yeee i agree, we have a good pack but not the best. I'd go with same 8-13 you have there but my bench would be:

14. Scott Geddes
15. George Burgess
16. Jason Clark
17. Nathan Peats

If you're including Ellis, you need to include Thaiday, who rran for more meters in less hit ups that Gallen and Graham.

I dont rate Tolman as an origin prop. He is too much like Chris Heighington, meter per run are pretty bad, and his quantity over quality issue needs to be addressed.

Kasiano is potential only at this stage. Looks good though.

Gavet, lol.

Pritchard, oh dear, he is well, bad. Very bad.

Stagg is an honest toiler, nothing more, nothing less. Halatau is the same.

Its a decent pack, no doubt about it, but your over-rating it, just like you over rate Ennis.

Taupau also looks the goods and we have kids like Jackson Finucane coming through who killing it continually. Also throw in Gavet who has alot of talk.

Ennis is the nsw hooker mate. I don't expect a farah fan to give him much credit. Graham is a gun. Tolman will play for NSW. Pritchard is the best impact backrower in the game on his day, was less effective in attack for us but very good in deffense but that was moore using him as a battering ram, i expect des could get the best out of him. Eastwood you give. Stagg was lock of the year a few years ago can't just be a defensive player. He was also very good in attack, just hard to believe. He has played time at 5/8 too you know, he does have ability just moore obviously had a plan for him. He does have more to his game.

Kasiano as you said looks the good.

Hardly a shit pack.

I never said its the best pack, hell i've said multiple times i rate broncos the best and titans right up there with them.

As for your ennis dig, you can all keep knocking him all you want he is a NSW hooker over farah for a reason.

Yes blame Ennis, not King and co's great 5 metre help in nsw.

Or pearce and his game breaking plays.

Or even the amazing centres they have.

Or even the fact queenslands squad overall is so much superior from 1-9 and even a few pack positions.
I forgot when farah played he won, or he played so shit he was droped.
