Johns is the best i've seen. Daley is a close second. Daley is the smartest player i've seen and by far the best captain NSW have had.

Can't comment on lewis, i've only really seen highlights of him.

Yehudi Cone, the most wasted piece of talent ever to lace up a boot, infamous in country football due to his off field reputation of pursuing officials wives, girlfriends, daughters etc.

He could do it all at will but never wanted to come to Sydney despite repeated offers. Now he is just an old skirt chaser.

sounds like the character based on the Whitlams song "Duffy's song"

Brad Fittler, barring all biased whatsever, is my favourite player of all time. Yes, I am only young, but he's the best I've seen in my day

Ok, I am 24, my most vivid memories of watching the game is 1986-87 though I continue to rate the 'best player(s)' I have seen from 1988 where as an 8 y.o. I attended my first ever Winfield Cup game.

So...the player I have seen in over 16 years of watching the game religously...

Very hard to narrow it down to one player admittedly, and I will exclide Wally Lewis, Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny etc for the simply fact I saw them in the wind down to their careers.

In no particular order;

* Ricky Stuart - Peerless passing and kicking game coupled with a football brain second to none you could argue which is on display in his current coaching stint with Sydney. Stuart was awesome in particular seasons 93 and 94 where he was at the height of his powers duelling with little Allan Langer for the coveted number 7 jersey for Australia.

* Allan Langer - The heart and soul of Brisbane and QLD teams in a career that spanned over 3 seperate decades. Alf was an individual player who made plays from literally nothing and his partnership with Kevin Walters is legendary amongst Brisbane fans. Still has the best short kicking game I have ever seen and perhaps the most dangerous player I have ever seen from 20m out.

* Andrew Johns - Tackles like a world rated hooker, like Ricky Stuart, peerless passing and kicking skills, quite simply the complete footballer. Some of the great individual displays of all time have come from Joey and it saddens me to think we may see a toned down version in 2005 after some serious injuries.

The 3 guys above were/are great leaders of men and all 3 have the competitivness that all great sportsman have. At various times, all 3 players have been heralded as the 'world's best' with each winning just about every individual award the game has to offer.

With the above 3, I would like to mention; Brad Fittler, Laurie Daley, Brad Clyde, Cliff Lyons and Terry Lamb. Glen Lazarus as a prop has to mentioned, as well as Steve Walters for the hooking role.

I can't split Kenny, Sterling, Johns, Fittler, Beetson and Lewis but for bias sake i'll say Fittler. He was the most complete player ive seen.

Awesome passing game. Whether it be 30+ metres out to his wingers on the chest or a clever inside ball. Huge kicking game and the best bomb ive seen. A rare stepping ability, the best since Langlands. That step combined with his size and strength made him a devastating individual threat at the line. So he was an incredible dual threat at the line in the sense that he could either put someone through a hole or burst through a gap too. I've lost count of how many tries hes scored close to the line using that step. He was also a fantastic defender. Both in his ability to bring anyone down and also make the men around him better defenders. And he's one of the greatest captains ever. Stuart said he's the best captain he's worked with.

I would hope this is not the sole basis for now judging the best players of all time...Churchill, Fulton, Langlands, Gasnier and co. will not get a look in if this were the case.

But his brother is the most one eyed touch ref if known

Julian O'Neill?

He was the best shoe-shitter I've ever seen.

Depends what he means by best

Julian O'Neil is the most talented player I've ever seen
But Andrew Johns and Wally Lewis tied for best performances I've ever seen

If O'Neil wasn't such a knob he'd probably surpass both those 2.

Even though he was a prop, Adam Ritson could certainly have challenged if his career didn't tragically end at the age of 21.

No argument from me about the talent of Julian O'Neil, though the most talented you have ever seen? :|

You go on to further say he perhaps could of surpassed the feats of Lewis and Johns if he stayed on track so to speak? :|

Each to their own, though I personally would not go on to say O'Neil (albeit a wasted talent) was going to go on and be anything comparable to Johns or Lewis. He was prone to making siple errors and taking the wrong option in attack on more than the one ocassion, with ball in hand I personally feel he was caught too much where he could of set up outside support when in the 6 jersey.

As a fullback, he was reliable and a compotent goalkicker.

I would like to see more thoughts on this comment from Razor by members...bold statement to make.

To be fair to everyone, O'Neill had a lot of talent and was in the right place at the right time.

He was also surrounded by very good players at the Broncos who were in the best form of their collective careers.

As for the best ever, that is certainly unlikely, however I will admit that his attitude and misbehaviour was his biggest obstacle.

The Cowboys were grateful for his input during his short stay, and historians in the future may well describe his time at the club as the end of the beginning for the Cowboys.

I've seen a lot of great players I wouldn't like to choose a single best player

But ellery Hanley was ONE of the very best I've had the pleasure of watching - so I'll put his name down simply because he never gets a mention in discussions like this (and he was at least better than julian o'neil)
