Oh, and Spinal Tap rules. 'This is Spinal Tap' is a great albulm to have a joint too.
You're not think of "Hard Rock Zombies" are you? Quite possibly the worst film ever. If you ever see it anywhere rent it, it's so hilariously bad it's unbelievable!

I liked Dazed and Confused. The movie gave guys like Ben Affleck and Matthew McConnaghey their break into the movies.

Killer soundtrack though.

I loved trick ro treat, especially with Ozzy playing the part of evangilist. Oh the irony!

I thought Almost Famous was absolute crap.

Well that just tells me you have no clue. The pic of Justine in your sig confirms it.

LOL, i love how you bag out other people's opinions using their signatures as confirmation......really intellectual!

You don't think someone being a Justine Timberlake fan may have questionable taste in music?

LOL - why do we have to explain why we don't like certain movies?

It gives everyone else a more detailed understanding of why you have a certain opinion. "It's crap" doesn't really add to the discussion.

Oh, so what makes you so artistically/intellectually mature? Just because you like Almost Famous you're some sort of artistic/intellectually mature giant....

No I actually have a brain and an appreciation for film. I also understand "Almost Famous". Cameron Crowe is one of my favourite directors.

If you don't trust me, check out Roger Ebert's opinion:

http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_reviews/2000/09/091501.html

Almost Famous required stylists to fake haircuts and recreate wardrobes of the time.....sure it may deal with some issues that are interesting, but for me, i'd rather something be as real as possible....the grainy quality of 80s films, the fashion and fads of the time are all encapsulated within the films....they don't claim to be artistic and/or intellectual....they are stories and meant to be entertainment, not social commentary......i doubt that Almost Famous was meant to be "social commentary" in the first place either............

All I ask from a film is that it not be dumb. "Dude Where's My Car" wasn't dumb because the film makers knew exactly what they were doing. Dumb is when the film makers have a terrible script which the actors abuse and isn't filmed effectively. Just as dumb is to treat ordinary material as though it's better than it actually is.

Let me get this straight. Given your obvious lack of appreciation for fake haircuts and wardrobes, do you believe that "period" films should never be made because they just aren't authentic?

So no more war films? Shakespeare? Anything?

Because I say I dont like the movie, you assume I didnt understand it? I had never actually considered that point until you brought it up and maybe you are right, but everything is subject to interpretation and your 'understanding' of the film, may be completely different to others who saw it and also feel that they 'understood' it.
Ive never claimed to be one of those artistic intellectual types and maybe that is why I didnt like it. I find it hard to explain to you why it is that I thought it was crap, becuase i cant really put my figner on it myself. It was just a movie that I couldnt get into and didn't enjoy. Maybe I didnt give it a chance from the beginning and went in with a negative attitude, as I know I wasnt very intereted in seeing it in the first place.

Not when you don't know the individual personally.

Fair enough, but I think Timberlake makes terrible throwaway pop music. It's fairly safe to assume that Mel's and my taste is quite different.

I appreciate you're response too Mel and I'm sorry if I came off too pretentious.

I'm not suggesting it was even that artistic/intellectual, but it was definitely intelligently put together. My example of Dude Where's My Car (or a better example, Dumb and Dumber) shows that a good film doesn't have to be "artistic" to be good.

I get frustrated by people who it seems are so willing to be enthusiastic about such mediocre artistic endeavour, when there is so much really good stuff out there, whether it be music, film, tv, etc.

For example, if you like animated films, get out to the Chavelle at Paddington or the Valhalla in Glebe this weekend to see a few of Hayao Miyazaki's amazing films.

He's my favourite director and it's a great opportunity to see his work on the big screen. He's the god of Japanese animation.

all is good hrundi. You're not the first person to give me shit because I like Justin, and I've heard it so many times that it truly doesnt phase me anymore. I'm happy to laugh along with it, hell I even call him Tinkerbell when discussing him with another forum member, but never once have I ever changed my stance because of presure from others. You can ask growler about that cos he is always bagging JT. There is much more to me than a single artist I happen to like. ;-) anyway, this thread isnt about Justin...

I might check out Almost Famous again sometime and see if my opinion on it changes, as there are a number of you here who seem to love it, and that was quite a glowing review by Ebert. Maybe age a more positive mindset will make me something in it that I didnt see the first time around

No idea what the title was but the acting was terrible and the soundtrack was just as bad.

Did it have some wierd subplot in it where Adolf Hitler was alive and living in some little redneck US town with Eva Braun and their inbred cretin offspring?

I wonder if the split here on Almost Famous is influenced by age. If you lived through that period and liked music, I don't see how you couldn't like the film. I say that because it was so authentic - Cameron Crowe really was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone; the story is based on his actual travels with The Allmans and Led Zeppelin.

But if you're younger, and don't appreciate the 70s scene, I guess you might not like it. But the earlier comment criticizing the movie for using "fake haircuts" was just stupid. How else are you supposed to make any movie about the past? And, this particular one did a superb job of re-creating the period it portrays.

Almost Famous is a f**king masterpeice! Another good rock movie is another Crow film called Singles which is set around the Seattle grunge scene in the early 90s. You can't go past High Fidelity for good wholesome entertainment and c'mon that scene about songs about death ("Automatic disqualification because of its involvement with the big chill" when talking about 'You can't always get what you want") was priceless. Of course School Of Rock was great and I also like a mockumentary called Hardcore Logo.

I am yet to see tapeheads or say anything but want to. However...

I AM STILL ADAMANT THAT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BLONDIE BIOPIC MADE AT LEAST 12 YEARS AGO WITH MICHELLE PFEIFFER PLAYING DEBORAH HARRY!

I thought I'd just state that a really really bad rock movie I saw recently is 'Garage Days'. Absolutely terrible. I'm too tired to go into why I think it blows goats, but it actually made me angry watching it, it was that crap.
