In terms of a running second rower who can get an offload away at the moment no-one is close to him.

If you want a second rower with starch who will take hitups up the guts all day you'd take a Paul Gallen or a Luke O'Donnell.

I'd go with the bloke from Parramatta (Hindmarsh)but for some reason he hasnt been in favour with the selectors for a couple of years.
Maybe he makes too many tackles.

Well there are two types of second rowers. Ones who play in the forwards and ones who play in the backs. QLD backrowers play in the forwards and tackle all day, NSW backrowers run at half backs all day. They are too far removed for an accurate comparison. But for the record, Dallas Johnson and the st george bloke are the two best IMHO.

steve menzies!

watmoughs stats from last game would have him up there (can be inconsistent though), think he played himself into an origin jersey though.

creagh is good

Rate him highly but i don't think you could get away with having 3 ben creaghs in your backrow, you still need the 40+ tackler and grunt runner in the middle in from the fringes. Prior/costigan/blonde moment and cant think of the others in the dragons squar rite now complement creagh for this, just like mannering/luck for nz, hoffman/johnson for the storm, ryan/stagg for the dogs etc

Waterhouse is in pretty good form, gets through a mountain of work in defense and can still break the line and offload.

On form alone, it's pretty hard to go past Creagh. I still think Hindmarsh and Ryan are the best second-rowers in the NRL.

NSW would be best served with a Hindmarsh/Creagh or Ryan/Creagh combination at the moment.

what? Can't you see I'm busy eating my hat.

Creagh's form this season has been outstanding and since I posted that thread, I have spent time watching him more closely - as advised by many people in that thread. I've been impressed by what I see and would rate him among the top three 2nd rowers in the game at the moment.

Waterhouse and O'Donnell would be up there as well - although different players to Creagh.

Gallen, Laffranchi, Watmough & Stewart are also all up there - and Tom Lehroyd-Lars is shaping into a fine player as well.

:lol:It's because Dallas Johnson and Ash Harrison have the hit up ability of a 12 year old girld.

Second rowers are supposed to run wider, props do the bulk of the work up the middle, it just makes sense to have the second rowers running at the little guys so they can get through/draw the defence and offload etc.

well how come the Qld forwards have owned the NSW forwards for a while now?

Because we keep picking soft-c**ks like Brett White and Brent Kite. ;-)

Plus Thurston's kicking game gives you the territorial advantage more often than not and your forwards can be a lot more aggressive in defence as a result.
