Eels team in 1999 beat the tigers 64 to 4 from memory had a cracking side.

I'm not surprised --- they had a cracking first-grade team that year, too (much better than the 2000 squad).

I remember going to see them take on the Sharks (as a neutral supporter) that year, who were deserving Minor Premiers. The Eels (who ran right behind them in 2nd) strangled the absolute life out of them to win 22-0.

Can't believe your boys didn't make the GF. They would have smoked the Dragons in the big one.

No research. Just a quick one i thought of. Would like to see people put there opinions up. Whats yours?

I really don't have the knowledge of great RG GF teams to comment. I've seen some good ones, but that's only in my lifetime. I think even David Middleton would struggle here.

I didn't realise it had become so dire at the Dogs, so starved of success they've got to start talking about their all conquering 2011 Reserve Grade side.

Roosters 1986 was a decent side. If memory serves me correctly, every member of the starting 13 had already played first grade.

Full team escapes me now, but contained the likes of Wayne Portlock, Tony Melrose, Lauri Spina, John Tobin, Dave Trewhella, Steve Hardy and Dave Brown.

Sharks could actually win this year. And team would contain plenty of ex first graders. I suppose there are some benefits to being rubbish and having to play a lot of NSW cup standard players in grade.

Full Ladder

That Dogs side was symptomatic of the 'buy out of trouble' philosophy that exists in the club.

It's not that it was because of any amount of amazing depth or anything, it's just that the Dogs had bought horribly over the years and had a sh*tload of players that needed forcing out of their top tier contracts.

Norths had some stellar reserve grade sides in the early 1990's IIRC. Manly's reserve grade has, by and large, been a steaming pile of sh*t for most of our history. The only decent one I remember is the Queensland Cup outfit led by DCE.
