The list of drunken incidents the Telegraph published yesterday shows just how much that paper loves trashing rugby league.

The more league players f**k up, the more that paper loves it. It will dig for anything.

Anyone who suggests that RL gets positive coverage in News LTD papers because of the obvious ownership situation with the game needs a good kicking.

Having checked both papers every morning in the months leading up to the season launch I can tell you it is difficult finding league coverage in the Herald. I find the Tele has much more league news.

The Herald and the ABC are more pro AFL imo.

Todays SMH has a lift out magazine title Sport & Style.

Its full of fluff pieces as you'd expect, but it also devotes 2 pages to the start of the AFL season, as well as 2 pages to 'memorable marks', without any coverage of the start of the NRL season next week.

There is a fluff piece on Jamal Idris from the Bulldogs (NRL), but that's balanced out with fluff by Tim Rogers (you am I) and his love the the Kangaroos (AFL).

It's a travesty that a Sydney news paper can publish a magazine on sport without mentioning Rugby League, expecially with 8 days to go to the start of the season.

You can write feedback to sportandstyle@fairfaxmedia.com.au

In the edition with today's SMH, this mag has a 4-page article (1 page is taken up entirely by a pic) by Steve Mascord on RL in the future (on and off the field).

One more time for the dummies...

No one cares to read about a nuffy who plays a silly game...

Rugby league players are news, you should be proud of it rather than always whinging about it...

Don't be so paranoid..

There is a fair bit of truth to this.

when union or AFL players get as much coverage (positive or negative) is when we will know where in a bit of trouble.

That said , it doesnt mean the coverage they give shouldnt be scrutinised. And where it is over the top it should be pointed out.

The southern states do it to create an image of rugby league down there that is unsavory. In Sydney the media make following rugby league like a soap drama whereby there is more to the sport than what happens on the field. Stories like the Williams saga last year and the Brett Stewart one this year is a way to keep league on the tips of everybody's mind.

Melbourne take these stories and use them as a barrier to making the sport a success down there which you would have to say is a sign of respect to the code. If they weren't threatened by the code then why would they report it? Who would care down there?

Don't entirely agree with your 2nd comment.....its not to do with respect to the code, but more to do with trying to stop afl fans jumping on the rugby league bandwagon here in Melbourne (Storm).

Going to be interesting today... some news broke at the very end of the afl footy show, as I was getting ready to watch the nrl footy show.....a Collingwood player is going to be charged with assault by the police. Apparently both Collingwood and the player allegedly both denied any involvement in the assault!

Well that is essentially the same as me saying it is trying to create a barrier to RL support in Melbourne. Most of that would be Storm support and I 100% agree with you.

What I am saying is by the AFL doing that its basically saying the NRL is not welcome here which in itself is a sign of respect. They are happy to welcome any other code because they aren't threatened by them, the Victory is a good example.
