All I know is it better not be just another name used by an NFL team. We already have too many teams that have American identities that have absolutely no relevance to Australia (I'm looking at you most of the Qld teams).

Since 19we have had 10 NFL brands taken

Jets
Raiders
Steelers
Broncos
Giants
Chargers
Cowboys
Rams
Titans (the worst of them all)
Dolphins

In the same time, we have had 5 semi-original names

Knights
Reds
Crushers
Mariners
Storm

Shares name with NFL team = unoriginal. Any other league = semi original.

I have no issue with sharing a name IF it has relevance to the area in question. Thats why I said most Qld teams. Dolphins may already exist as the Miami Dolphins but dolphins are found where that league team is so that makes sense.

Yep, from memory Miami were 1960 so Redcliffe probably beat them. Cowboys is not original but perfect fit for North Queensland. Titans is a dud name even in NFL. Jets in both Newtown & Ipswich are well established & reflect industry in both locations.

Think about this: every major football league in Australia has a tigers & magpies. I find that boring.

I don’t understand how a “Titan” is American?

I’m aware a NFL team shares that name, doesn’t make it an American name/concept though.

The original point about why we copy the identities of American franchises when we should be honouring our own culture and giving them Australian identities.
Just because one had it first, doesn’t mean the second copied it directly. There was a public vote after not being able to use the name a Dolphins.

Just because the NFL had a team with that name before we did means nothing.

That has nothing to do with my point but okay.

Are you also against the name Tigers? Ain’t no Asian big cats in Leichhardt, Balmain or Lilyfield.

I think they would have been better to go with Magpies than Tigers but I get it all boils down to marketing, hence why they feel the need to adopt identities that have zero relevance to Australia.
