Big game this Friday

Hi guys

Like most on this forum I think our boys have played well during a difficult period of representative football. We remain top of the competition and are starting to get a few injured players returning.

All that said, the competition is quite evenly poised and every week represents yet another tough game.

This week we play the Tigers who are coming third on the competition ladder and only 4 pointes behind us. They have an impressive defensive record (albeit not as good as ours) and can score tries from all parts of the field.

My questions for the forum are:

1 - Why (tactics and player talent) will we beat them?

2 - What score do you predict?

We are a more well-rounded team. They have some great attacking players but lack the grit and ability to grind out games like we do.

I think Saints by 20 (Let's say 24-4 for arguments sake)

We have the defensively ability to grind them out early, maybe a 10-6 scoreline after 20 minutes. But Tigers wont be able to hold an arm wrestle with us surely. 30-12 or something is my prediction.

Although it was only against Canberra, the tigers did well to stay in the arm wrestle with the raiders yesterday... i think it'll be a lot tougher than you lot are making it out to be!

The problem trying to pick form from yesterday's Tigers/Raiders game is neither team could hold onto to the ball for a set of six and made some basic mistakes.

WestsTigers defence lets in 2-3 more tries than we do
The have beaten Manly at home in game 1 but apart from that
The Warriors, Raiders x 2, Dogs, Eels, Cowboys and Knights are the only teams that they have bested.
Their ambitious and free style of play and high skill levels can score a lot of points against sides that don’t a highly organised defence
The Dragons rock solid defence should keep them in check and we should grind out another win. I’d say a scoreline of 24-12 is feasible but who can pick anything in the NRL

The excerpt from today's SMH may also have a bearing on the game

"The Tigers play St George Illawarra next in more hostile territory, at Kogarah this Friday, although they may pay the price for the physicality of yesterday's game. Captain Farah (shin), Heighington (hip), halfback Robert Lui (knee), winger Beau Ryan (neck) and fullback Wade McKinnon (hip) will be in some doubt for the encounter."

Just keep an eye on Farah & let Marshall dance sideways all night & we will put ourselves in a good position.

30-6.

The Inner West Kittens attack very well usually, can't defend for sh*t. But recently their defense has improved, still I think Saints are too good for them.

For the Tigers to score their 18 points yesterday it took a Canberra team to miss 51 tackles.
Saints will not grant them that much of an opportunity, in reality Saints will be lucky to miss 20 tackles in the game.
Wests completed 25 of 42 sets, as opposed to Saints 28 of 34, if the Tigers make anywhere near the 17 errors (as opposed to Saints 8) they did against Canberra at the wrong end of the field against Saints they will be shut out quicker than they can say "holy sh*t, I think we are down 14-0 and being held for 5 tackles within our own half for the better part of 20 minutes now!".
They also got the rub of the green penalty wise yesterday, Saints in what might be called an undisciplined performance gave away 6 and received only 2, lightning will not strike twice in that regard.
It took Wests an eternity to put the nail into the coffin against the Raiders, potentially because they Raiders were a little bit tired, another luxury that Wests cannot bank on occurring, Saints will not fatigue like the Raiders did.

Wests are hard to pick, one week they can be erratic, the next week they can be mesmerizing, if they turn up and turn it on there is always the potential for them to win in a tight one, but the "old tricks" of the flick pass and stupid offloads will not work here, a flick pass on the inside will get the recipient smashed and offloads thrown willy nilly out the back are likely to either be pounced on or result in a loss of ground, soldier football from side to side in an effort to unsettle the defence will most likely result in a loss of ground.
If the Tigers turn up, chance their arm and a few things go their way and they defend beyond their capability then they can challenge Saints, BUT if they make a few mistakes, as they are prone to do, get behind and their heads go down they could find themselves behind by double digits, pinned on their own line and becomming frustrated which will only result in more mistakes, they have leaked 113 more points than Saints this year and that could be a telling factor.
Then there is that other factor, Gasnier, as disjointed as it will be for him first up if he plays, Tigers centres of the past have literally had nightmares about him, Chris Lawerence may be bitch slapped and badly for the first time in a long time, Scott and Cooper / Stanley are defensive specialists, but Gasnier in the past has stepped, jinked, turned and span his way through impossible situations, his addition provides potency on both sides of the field, however, Saints must not fall back into the 2005 habit of "well this is going nowhere, throw it out to Gaz and see what he does", they have won without him, they can win with him, but they don't need to try change the world first game out.

Saints by 14.

I've always rated Mckinnon highly, he had a solid game, but nothing flashy.

Difficult to predict which Tigers team will turn up but one thing is for sure; we are the competition leaders and the benchmark. Everyone wants to measure themselves against us. Many teams have had their best game of the year against us. Tigers will lift for this one.

In the corresponding game last year that TUIAKAI tore us apart everytime he touched the ball..we were the better side but the tigers turned up to play which they will certainly do this friday...

Thats very comforting knowing everyweek teams look to take our scalp but majority of times we come out on top

Will be a Draw. There is a curse that preys upons sides that stops them winning 5 games straight. Rarely can a team get past it. Only once has anyone survived the 5 straight curse this year. However as both Saints and the Tigers are going for their 5 on the trot it will be a draw.
