If you watch Jackson Fords NSW cup highlights though he looks like a superstar to be fair. I think he was even the leading tryscorer in the comp one year. He just hasn’t nailed first grade yet. I’d still have Ford ahead at this stage.
I don't know which other positions Ford played but Burns has scored 20 tries in 37 NSW cup games playing solely at second row. He hasn't just kept as a incredible rate for a forward for one season.

There are some fans who really don't rate him from what they've seen of him in first grade but I'd be confident if he's given a permeant stint and had the right half with him. Might start off a bit slow, he'd probably be able to do that play where you pass to the second rower and second rower passes back inside to the fb. Reckon that could be lethal with Dufty as the fb but Hook usually doesn't do many set plays.

That’s what I also feel about Ford, who scored 16 tries in 20 games playing back row. If put on and edge and given a chance he would really excel.

Defence is his area of improvement.

I see Jacob Host topped the tackle count for the Bunnies @39, with the top tackle efficiency as well @ 97.5%.

Thanks Waterboy
You cruelled that kid

And we lost him because of your (& ‘Management’s’)
rank stupidity

... & Hook tried hard to keep him

- and we would’ve

had Craig (whose time must be up in any Admin position) not manoeuvred for his son
now lost in Paradise.

Stats this year?
1st grade? What 10 mins
Came on last 10 against a fatigued Newcastle side who were injury plagued!
I understand if you rate him but that is a stretch.
Lets just say that everyone in the team is playing better than the last few years under the Genius we had .... Lets wait and see when we start playing the better teams , then we will know really how the team is playing as a whole and individually .... For me I see an improvement and we will be competitive ..... But like you say , Ford stats compared to last year , cant go on the game time he has had this year ...... More than likely he will improve as will everyone else under Hook .....

Time to move on with guys like Host and Luc. As you say, Hook tried to keep him but that's life.

Our backrow stocks are looking ok now with the addition of Burns and the fact Sims seems to have grown a new leg. Kerr is an option now too and he's going well, so the coach fixed pretty quickly what was a glaring weakness at the start of the season.

Host is a good player, still don't know how he goes against the better packs in the comp. He got shown up against the Storm monsters Round 1 and got duly dropped the next week. He was better last night against a poor team however.

Anyway, Host isn't a Dragon any more, but good luck to him. I still hope our pack smash him when we play Souths.

And our poor defence virus has moved to Townsville.

Correct and I was straight on the front foot being more positive about Hook getting the gig

but we have been down the road before under the previous impostor having good competitive starts in early rounds in 2015 17 18 and even 19 looking OK until predicted downhill slide

I have definitely seen positive and subtle differences in our play so far
Let’s hope we are all feeling the same come round 18

There is no likelyness whatsoever camparing Dragons 2021 with Dragons 2019 and 2020. Last couple of years every game there was hope but the never really looked confident and in control.
Yes it's only early

Apologies if I seemed a little too forward, but i've just seen so many people (mainly on Facebook) singing his praises and attacking the coaching staff for not giving him a shot, when there's a clear reason for it.

Sure, you watched him play for Norths and U18's SOO in 2017, when he was a 17 year old and probably a similar size... Playing against boys. When you're that size at that age, playing against younger kids who don't have the physicality that grown men in the NRL competition have, you generally look at lot better.
Even though it's completely the polar opposite, Dufty and Field are perfect examples of that. They lit that competition up and were never physically dominated.
f**k, even TJ Uele looked like a world-beater at one stage and he was half Blacker's size.

Blacker's lateral movement is poor, he lacks that desperation in defense and doesn't have the mobility that you need in the modern game. There's no late footwork, in fact there's no footwork at all. All you'd need to do if you were someone like Murray, Brailey, Taukeiaho etc.... Is just go low on him and he'll drop every time. He's predictable and slow, his output (for what you'd expect from a dominant prop looking for hit-ups) needs A LOT of work.

I'd be intrigued to see how he goes at Penrith and if he can develop into an NRL player, but at the moment he's nowhere close. This swap gave us a player who is ready right now in a position we're getting desperate for depth.
I've stated exactly what you have said re. superstar playing against boys when he was a lot bigger but didn't show large amount of mongrel to go all day.

I still know nothing about Burns. Hope he is as good as people indicate.

Maybe the swap deal is good?
But I’m still disappointed I’ll miss seeing blacker develop in the red V.
I saw enough in the trials to think he could develop into a top player. Good luck to him, and maybe we will see him back in the team.

We don't have to develop juniors to fill every position on the field. Rather we encourge, help and develop juniors who show promise and hopefully play first grade for the Dragons one day.

Every successful team has a mix of juniors and players recruited to the club. The trick is to ensure we have first grade ready players each season who are capable of making our team competitive.

For 2021 we have one former SOO player, one local junior and the remaining props are being either fringe first graders or still under development. So we have enought 'props with potential'. We need one more top level prop and we will need to recruit him.

Swaping Blacker for Burns makes good sense given that the Dragons have an urgent need for at least one more backrow forward while at the moment have a list of too many props under development. The recruitment of Burns who is first grade ready fills a whole we needed to fill and letting go of Blacker gives us one more spot in our prop rotation that we can fill with a top grade prop.

Griffin is doing a great job sorting out our player list and I think that in 2022, he will have the opportunity to deliver a well balanced and talented squad.
