Bird for fullback

Bird is an edge runner. Either centre or back rower. That is all he will ever be, but thats a good thing for him & us, because he is one of the best. Worth every cent we pay him.
Fullback is a conundrum for us. Real Conundrum. We have plenty of guys with attack that could play there, but none are a spit on the defensive organisational nouse of Benny. Clap holmes all you like, but we wont go any good with him at the back.
The players have stated they could hardly hear benny screaming at them during the GF because of crowd noise. How far are whispers going to get us?

This was pretty much my point. Not saying Bird's best position is FB, just that Holmes may not have the personal authority to scream rugby league players into position when necessary.

Cant say I have noticed that in Bird. Have noticed petulant screaming when he or someone else f**ks up though.

Again, based purely on the instinct that Bird has more of the arrogant asshole vibe about him than Val. From what I can see/project/imagine that is ie f**k all

Just an assumption based on watching Bird. Obviously I cant hear what he is saying but he does appear to be quite reactive out there. Could also mean that he isn't afraid to bark at anyone and that could be a positive i guess.

Do we know that Holmes doesn't speak at the back? In all his nrl games as the starting fullback was he silent?

Wingers are a lot quieter. Maybe the full time fullback role he coverts is all he needs to start giving direction.
Barba showed a lot of people what is required as a derensive full back.

I think Holmes will surprise us. I think he will grow into that role and be a lot better defensively than some of you guys worry about.

Feeling somewhat less sheepish now after Bird's performance v Faders last night. Val back next week and hope he dominates. Best outcome is to have inter-changeable awesome right across the park.

Was a good call. I didnt see that performance by Bird coming. he roamed, he shouted, he supported he coordinated he defended. Cant do anymore than that, other than repeat.

He was very impressive however Freddie made an interesting comment on the footy show this morning, in that Canberra only kicked the ball ONCE in the first half.

Not sure if that is exactly true but he was not tested by a good tactical kicker.

Jury is still out until he is.

Positional play is everything for a fullback.

Bird is just a gamer.

merkin will always be giving it his all. If he drops one or two bombs I think he is the kind to set such high standards that he will blast himself and improve.

We might see Flanno evolve the game, we have gone from centres same side of field to centre aside.

Same with halves now playing most one either side, the game continues to evolve.

It was always forwards win matches, now its all about the spine.

Flanno maybe able to work how to to basically have Holmes & Bird getting multiple touches of the ball per set, if he can do that, my god we have a team close to unbeatable

He can't possibly be worse under the high ball than feki. That bloke has no idea.

If teams learnt anything it's bomb our left wonder and attack our right winger.

There is nothing about him at the moment that says he is a future 6.
He has lock, edge second-row written all over him.
