Reefy, Why can't we just accept the decision that has been made and as a club rise above to a new level of professionalism??

I am sick to death of the GENERAL opinion that we are always victims. I think it is about time that this club accept that we will get bad decisions and adopt the ethic of working harder to overcome them.

I don't think I have seen a more mentally soft team in terms of getting rattled so quickly. It would be a fantastic sight just to see the players getting back into position and working hard when a penalty is given against us and just getting on with the game.

I still think that we should be a top 6 side. The only reason I don't beleive we will make the top 6 is if we keep imploding like we are doing now.

Because as a club we need to be able to lessen the impact of situations like this in every means possible.
If it means doing what you say, good , do it. Butthat is only part of the picture.

To quote Johnny lang.

The Dogs & Roosters have money & influence. The Sharks have neither.

that is the biggest part of the equation.

I agree completely.

I seem to remember some other 'brain explosions' carried out by one Andrew Johns that were not looked at in nearly as severe a light as Birdy's.

Sure, the knee was bad - but don't kid yourself - if it had been a high profile roosters player who'd have done it there'd be no 5 minute deliberation and 10 week penalty.

Crocker does disgusting things every week and hardly ever gets pulled up on it

There were a number of calls to Hadley talking about Crocker's niggle and particularly how impressionable kids may mimic the facials he gives in each and every tackle, and how parents watching the games wouldnt want that sort of thing happening to their kids

ie. the guy repeatedly tarnishes the game's image

But he's a Rooster

And you are Danny De Vito?

I can't believe I'm going to say this but BTR is soooooooooooo right on all of this. #-o

One of the main things that I can't fathom is why the Souths bloke was not up for charges for what antagonised Bird in the first place?????????

Please explain???????????????

BTR,
Can't remember but I think Roberts was sued in civil proceedings by Jack, not charged or convicted of a criminal offence. It is only the latter (a conviction) that would make him a no, no for jury duty.
Must say, I do tend to agree with Fizman on the Bird incident even though I do think we do worse at the judiciary than other clubs on average. There's a certain emotive reaction to a king hit kneeing that I think makes it a loser for us to go on arguing about severity of sentence. Even if Bird had belted the crap out of Marteene with his fists, I think it would have been much much lighter, but the whole circumstances of Marteene being head down, getting up and not able to even see the knee coming made for a very very bad look. Let's be candid, it was a cat act at a stupid time image wise for the game and comes on the back of the Sharks having earnt a very bad reputation over the last few years as a pack of ill disciplined whingers led by the past master of the art form, our last coach.
Whether we like it or not, our players need to get it through their fat heads that we need to be squeaky clean for this season and next to dispel the suspicion that is now out there that ther is a bit of an attitude in our playing ranks that we're hard done by and it's OK to get shitty and brain snap with cheap shots if things aren't going our way.
I do agree that part of that attitude towards higher discipline standards, should, however, include a hard arsed attitude to going public about compalints on other teams' players getting cited like Marteene should have been. BUT, if we are going to dish that out we have to take it when one of ours deserves it.
Lastly, my wife wishes I look like Ben Affleck (and so do I) but, alas, that's about where the similarity begins and ends.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the sentence, Bird has reached the low point in his career, and it will be interesting to see how it affects him.

"Bled for his club." An often overused cliche used to describe clubmen.

Deano redefined it.

Shut up mcSharkie.

How's f*ck off sound?

I don't think that Bird's suspension was over the top, I think it was spot on. The problem that I have is that other clubs get a better deal than us. As mentioned by other posters here, if it had been a Rooster the panel would have given him 3-5 weeks less. That is flat out wrong.

I also agree with Fizman too, we need to move on now.

Yes SS, we all know you hate him.
How about cutting the guy some slack. It's starting to get a little repetitive
