It's ridiculous how the roosters don't even have to hide their dodgy ways anymore...

The NRL is such an amateur organisation.

What he said ^ . The NRL allowed Malloney to be paid by The Roosters whilst still being at The Warriors so why wouldn't they let Easts pay Fergo for next years season now ?
We weren't paying him at the Warriors, we signed him in 2011 so he could play for us in 2013. He recived no funds from us until 2013, brown paper bags excluded :sarcasm:

If he is getting any more than 60-70k it's a rort.

He's barely on a contract above minimum wage. Facts seem to be irrelevant though when there's a more interesting story to be told.

Thinking the NRL would allow him to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars then play for barely anything is just stupidity personified. Anyone who actually thinks the administration of the NRL would go for that need to check themselves.

Legally speaking it should be allowed, but it would definitely be a rort. I have no idea how the NRL would be able to stop a non-contracted player from being paid by the club though.

Nah.

Sam Perrett's mid-season departure to Canterbury-Bankstown cleared another $100,000, enabling the Roosters to keep a significant proportion of Maloney's 2013 salary in the previous year's cap.

Bullshit its the same outcome.

They were allowed to count his salary before he was a contracted player, essentially having him on the books for free for 2013, allowing them to sign Jennings.

Its bullshit and shouldn't be allowed.

Front-loading & Back-ending contracts shouldn't be allowed, I agree with you there.

Every club does it though, I guarantee Canberra have and they'd be pretty stupid not to front-load a lot of contracts right now given the amount they're most likely under the cap this year.

I can deal with front/back loading when a player is at least playing for the club. But counting their salary in a cap a year before they have even pulled on a jersery is ridiculous.

They didn't, you're missing the point.

Say there's 200k free in the cap and JWH is being paid 400k per year.

They front load him by paying him 600k in year 1 and 200k in year 2.

So like I said it's the same outcome, there's 200k extra free in year 2 (2013) for Maloney that otherwise wouldn't have been there.

The Roosters weren't allowed to just pay Maloney that 200k directly and have him on their books for 2012 but they could front load the contracts of others. It's the same outcome.

I can't make it any more simple than that to understand...

I feel f**king stupid now. Didn't even occur to me they front loaded other contracts.

I'll just be in the corner over there.

You cite an article by Fox Sports as evidence? I mean they never get anything wrong do they?!

Well I guess we should take Roosters fans word for it being bullshit then :sarcasm:. It was actually discussed through more than just Fox Sports at the time .

If the NRL really wanted to get serious about punishing this guy to make sure he's learn his lesson, they should make him come back to canberra and play outside Josh McCrone.

i promise you, one month of that will scare the boy straight

Well if it was being discussed at the time then it must be true?

Proof?

You can excuse the cynicism of other clubs' fans. After all, you didn't earn the 'rorters' reputation for doing nothing.

Aren't you guys the ones claiming that Ferguson is getting paid above and beyond in some dodgy fashion?

I'd say that puts the burden of proof on you to prove your claim, not Roosters fans to disprove it.
