Blaming the Ref Syndrome

the ref specifically asked him to rule on the pass off the ground.

the issue I have is the calls were wildly inconsistent... "didnt try to get across" and "tried to get across but only to get a call" both asserted as reasons to give the try.

Yep, agree with both. Wyatt definitely sent it upstairs to to check the ball carrying arm. My understanding is the bunker wouldnt be able to rule on whether he was held or not in terms of momentum anyway

Especially agree the second. Thats unforgivable in the same game from the same bunker ref.

I believe there is bias in refereeing and games are managed to achieve certain results.
I've seen teams reffed out of a game in the 1st half only to get a few calls late in the 1st half or in the 2nd half to "even up" the count. I've seen games where teams get a 6 again on tackle 4 or 5 consistently while the other team gets them on tackle 1 or 2. The higher placed teams on the ladder are better at exploiting referees with cynical play and testing referees than the lower placed ones.
Having said that I believe the team that has deserved the win most has won in about 98% of games.
I believe that children are our future treat them well and let them lead the way show them all beauty the posses inside..lol

It doesn't help that the standard of refereeing at the moment is bad as I've ever seen it. Combine that with several major changes the NRL has made to the way the game is refereed, most of them for the worse (e.g. captains challenges, 6 agains, bunker bingo, random crackdowns on obscure rules) and you have the recipe for what is IMO a pretty crappy product right now.

Obviously no specific team is purposely getting shafted (although you could make the traditional argument that sometimes referees go in with subconscious preconceived ideas that the better teams should win), but by nature fans tend to remember the crappy calls that go against them rather than the ones that went in their favour. And there's so many bad calls going around right now that I can see why so many fans think their team is getting dudded.

Blaming the ref is way overdone and has always been part of the game. How correct people are about it is neither here nor there. It's a sport within the sport. It's no different to yelling out shit at the game. Ya pays your money, ya gets your money's worth.

Me? I'm an angel typically and only politely enquire about a contentious decision that decides a match in a most controlled and erudite way.

f**k that bullshit Brailey try decision that cost Souths the game against the Sharks though!!! Klown deserves to be .... um, questioned as to what his blood alcohol level was at the time?

In conclusion, I don't know.

That whole game was riddled with ref errors, when does a falcon constitutes played at, also South second try was suspect but you get to live with it…it’s always has been in the game…

We have no choice but to live with it. Part of the way we do that is to vent. To let off steam and have our say at the game or on social media and forums like these.

Vent away I say. Vent and be free. Free of steam ...

The last thing I'll add is that, at least on LU, by and large people are pretty restrained and controlled regarding club rivalries so during matches, where else does the pent up frustration come out without starting WW3?

There's no refs supporters to offend (I'm pretty sure) so, easy target. he he he he ....

I think the biggest issue with league is that there could be a penalty for offside/ruck interference/hand on the ball on pretty much every play the ball, yet the just bring it out randomly. When you see a penalty you know there were 10 times the opposition had done exactly the same thing in the last 2 sets that weren't penalized. The inconsistency is what pisses fans off. Im a lot less inclined to be pissed at a missed knock on/forward pass as thats a spilt second decision that can be missed.

Lets not get started on the Bunker, great idea but the worst executed part of rugby league Ive seen.

My Panthers are fitter than any other side in history but yeah we probably get away with a smaller 10m because of it and how fast we are.

...and then the NRL come out, show the penalty for the hand on the ball, say they were correct, and go "see, we're right 99% of the time!"
