Braith Anasta

I know the term overrated has become overrated itself in recent years, but surely this guy beats Turnstiles Gidley and 'The Face' Barrett? He's done nothing good this year, zero impact in SOO and is still living off a few intercepts he took against NE a few years ago.

Next Fittler my arse!

Well he did play good the year he made his debut but he has gotten worse each game he plays. He is over-rated.

I think Anasta is overrated, but he will be back next year. He has had an injury this year and i think he should improve for the next season.

Oh and by the way Barrett will improve next year and him and Firman will form a great combination.

The guy is only 21 and you're already making it out as if his career is over. I would understand you're frustration if he was selected for the Roo tour or the initial SOO team, but he had a poor season and he paid for it through his non selection. That will only make him hungrier next year.

How long did it take Johns to become such a dominant player in our game. It hasn't been until fairly recently that people have really stood up and taken notice. He sure as hell wasn't doing what he is doing now when he was 21. Everybody knows Anasta has the talent to become a great player. The question is whether he reaches his potential or not. I think if Thurston can move into 5/8 and play well next year than Braith can go back to his preferred position of lock and you will see a much better player.

I have heard he is very unhappy at the dogs. very unhappy. How many years does he have left on his contract? I agree he is over rated but that doesn't mean he is a "bad" player.

Oh, and Barrett doesn't have the heart.

I just love those sort of posts - every knows someone that knows someone these days. No wonder no-one can keep a secret.

Funny thing is lad - I've heard some things about you, a lot of things.

Anasta needs to spend less time in front of a mirror, and more time putting in the hard yards in training, he comes across as a spoilt brat...needs work on his image.

Fair comment. I've always thought of Anasta as a better Lock, but he didn't perform there in SOO. It's not exactly his fault, but the media keep beating him up as a great player, which is a crock of shit.

Still, he's done nothing in his career but take a few intercepts. That's it.

zero impact in SOO

He played in the one game that NSW lost, and he set up the only try

I don't think he's particualrly over-rated, but mainly because I don't really think that anyone rates him higher than a 'good first grader' and I think he is a good first grader...

Both Barret and Anasta are over-rated because they play for prominant Sydney teams. This said the term 'over-rated' doesn't mean the person is a dud player. What it means is that player is made out to be great when in reality he is only good. Call me biased but IMO Mclinden is a better player than both however he will never receive the same accolades as Anasta and Barret do. This would make him under-rated.

You're biased ;-)
But I still think that McLinden is a little under-rated.

I don't think that it has anything to do with the fact that they're from prominant sydney teams.

People have been saying how crap Anasta is for 2 seasons, so I really don't think that he's rated that highly anymore, so I think his rating is fair.
I don't think Barrett has had much chance to prove his rating is worthy due to injuries and having not much of a halfback inside of him. Which may very well change next year.
McLinden is very close to Anasta and Barrett, and I think by the end of next year people will be singing his praises, but I think you're bias may be what's putting him ahead of the other two.

I agree with that, and Barrett will prove himself next year, especially with Firman, and will be back in the origin and kangaroo teams. But yeh i think Mclinden is a bit underrated too, but he still isnt as good as Barret or even Anasta.
But Anasta will come good again soon, he is still only young.

I agree with the fact that Braith is still only 21, he has a lot of league to play yet, he has the potential and im sure will shine in the future. Macca on the other hand has had to contend with being a utility in the past and hasnt had the oppurtunity to cement a position and feel comfortable. He got that oppurtunity this season, he showed what a class act he can be and will only be more of a handful for the opposition next season AND I CANT WAIT  hehehehe

I believe that Anasta has had a good year which was interrupted my a foot injury. His combinations with Sherwin has been consistently improving. Don't forget that over the last 12 months Sherwin has improved dramatically and begun directing the play much more which has reduced the impact that Anasta can make but gives another option. Now with Norton gone, Anasta will move to lock at some point in the season and Thurston will be developed into the first grade 5/8 role with a terrific half / lock combination.

The way I see it is that the people in the media who are now saying that Anasta is overrated are the same media people who rated him too high too early in the first place.

Note: Past overrated players reported include,

Brad Fittler
Andrew Johns
Trent Barrett
Craig Wing

Not a bad group to be in.
