Breakfast Smoothie

Fui!!!

In my constant search for more sleeping hours I get my wife to make me a smoothie for breakfast so I can drink it in the car.

Usually I put, Milk, Yogurt, Banana and some strawberries.

But I get caught up in work, so most days I don't eat lunch till 2 or 3. Problem is, I get really hungry, sometimes to the point where at lunch, I have lost my appetite so I don't again till the next morning.

My question is, what can I add to get it to keep me fuller till say 1pm (NY reso was to eat lunch early everyday). Out of Weet Bix and Muesli, which is healthier and lasts longer?

Any other suggestions welcome as well :)

Rolled oats
about 50g soaked in abit of water and milk add that into your smoothie, heaps of good carbs and fibre.

Museli can be anywhere from very good to very bad.
As a rule, raw museli is pretty good, but toasted museli is high in fat or oil, so is very high calorie, and if it is saturated fat it's even worse.
The only way to tell for sure is to read the product information.

or make your own muesli, which I used to do

that way you know whats in it and it tastes much better if you add stuff like dried apricots and other fruit

very cheap too

I sometimes add 2 Weet-Bix to my breakfast smoothies as this brings up the fibre content. Dont leave it sitting too long though, the Weet-Bix tend to soak up moisture like a sponge and your smoothie ends up with the consistancy of glue.

What time do you have Breakkie? If you're drinking your smoothie at say 7:00 and not eating lunch until 13:00 -14:00 nothing you put in will make much difference to how hungry you will be by then. Best to take some healthy, easy to access snacks with you to work so you avoid the hunger pains

I think you need to look at this "problem" differently.

Presently, you're referring to this issue as a 'hunger' concern; where you feel so hungry, you end up losing your appetite - however, this is more problematic in relation to your nutritional intake if you ask me. You must be quite deficient in a number of required nutrients; not to mention likely quite low on energy in a general sense.

What do you do for work? . Why can't you have snacks with you? (ie: muesli bars in your pocket)? ..... while some of the food choices to might make for snacks will be considered undesirable; it'd be much better you fuel your brain so you can think clearly (cognitive function is hampered by low glucose / CHO availability); and so you can generally feel better - as many vitamins/minerals/nutrients are necessary for energy enzyme release/production; where if you devoid yourself of these, you'll no doubt feel fatigued, hungry, distracted, and irritable.

Thanks Everyone. If I make my own Muesli, what should I put in it? I'm thinking rolled oats, seeds, nuts and maybe some dried fruit. But what kind?

I eat Breakfast at 8:00. Now I eat lunch at 1pm everyday (at least most days). I don't eat snacks, cause I run presentations for work. So I'm doing public speaking pretty much all day. And I get very little time between presentations and it takes some time to set them up.

I usually take snacks, but they never get eaten.

BTW this is only Monday - Wednesday. I only work 3 days a week. The other 2 I'm at home creating the presos.

It can take one minute? maybe two minutes? to eat a small snack every so often.... I'm absolutely, positively certain you're able to spare 120 seconds every two hours or so if you needed it.

I say that every morning as well. But I have to do 4 1 hour presentations (last year I had to do 5 or 6), and they are scheduled on the hour. People come up and ask you questions, I feel rude if I eat in front of them. Then I use the rest of the time for a toilet break (if I can fit that in).

Some days I do get to eat a snack, if no one comes up to speak to me. But they are few and far between.

Anyway, I'm now thinking I could add muesli and weet bix. that should last 5 hours easily (I think)

I usually stick with oats, banana/berries, ice, skim milk )and maybe 1/2 scoop of vanilla flavoured casein protein if I know I'm not going to get a chance to eat for a while) in smoothie, oats are soaked overnight to soften them making them easily blended into a smoothie. Not the best tasting smoothie but easy to prepare, quick to consume and works for me

no need to use a blender...rolled oats, honey whey, milk or water and thats it. does the trick, piss the banana off until after training

One that I've tried is soak a couple of wheet bix in milk and let it go all soft and gluggy, add some chocolate flavouring and some more milk, then blend it up in the milkshake maker.

Saw a thing on frozen berries the other day.
Apparently the berries they pick that are ripe go straight to the freezer because they wouldn't last till they got to the shops - they send half ripe ones to the shops.
Since the frozen ones are ripened on the vine and frozen immediately they have more nutritional value than ones picked half ripe and stored for maybe a few weeks or more.
The problem is that they go mushy after being frozen so they are only good for cooking or smoothies - but that also means they are cheap.
Dark coloured berries are a great source of anti oxidents, and apparently frozen berries are the best and cheapest way to get them apart from picking them and eating them off the vine.

I tried this the past few days.

Rolled Oats
2 Bananas
Milk
Ice

It was too bland for my liking so I add a spoonful of Milo now and it's much better. Not sure if using Milo defeats the purpose.

I have a smoothie for breakfast nearly every morning.

100 grams of frozen berries
30 grams of whey (if I've only ran before breakfast it's WPC if I've worked out and ran WPI)
200 grams of yoghurt
100mls of Soy Milk
100mls water

Sometimes I substitute the berries for a frozen banana and add some cinnamon or organic cocoa powder.
