Breakout year in 2016

I like Mitch Frei for the Roosters.

An Aussie Schoolboy who was rated highly but couldn't make the jump straight up from the 20's so spent two years in the QLD Cup, got named as lock of the year last year.

Turns 24 this year which is the age you start to see middle thirds really start to hit their straps and he came to the Roosters because he wanted to be trained by who he thought was the best coaching staff which shows good temperament and determination IMO.

He wont make the 17 but he'll be right on the egde, he should see plenty of games as a result of injury, suspension & rep duties.

I do not think that word ( breakout ) means what you think it means.

In this context it would mean to suddenly become more successful/realise their potential.

I would say unlikely for your examples as they will remain bit part players but they both have potential no doubt.

Not really sure if he would fall into this category but I also expect Elliott Whitehead to continue the trend of poms making it big in the NRL. Very good edge runner and should see plenty of minute for the Raiders there.

Huge fan of Jordan McLean from the Storm too.

He'll hit 50 first grade games in Round 5 this year assuming he's available from Round 1 which is generally when first graders start to peak.

Huge kid who was always going to take some time to grow into his body but there were some really good signs last year that he was starting to not just handle the physicality of being a top grade forward but being able to physically dominate his opposition.

I reckon Leeson Ah Mau will go up anothoer level this year. He had a breakout year of sorts in 2015 where he was the best forward in an understrength-yet-competitive pack. With the addition of some decent forward options, he will lift again.

Oh, and Tyson Frizell. Hell start flattening merkins. As is his birthright.

Jack Wighton going into his 2nd year in his new position as fullback is poised to take a pretty big step forward.

He's had wraps on him for a long time, and everyone who coaches him RAVES about his athleticism and what a talent he is. I think this year he's going to start living up to that hype.

I also think this will be the year people really start taking notice of just how good Paul Vaughan is. I think he'll play SOO in 2016

How he didn't this year is beyond me. Then again, nothing should surprise considering the geniused NSW selectors. He is an absolute weapon.

Maybe Craig Field will be have a breakout year in 2016.... He's not eligible for parole until 2021 so a breakout is his best chance at freedom!

Kane Evans.

Was awesome this year but next year he will mature and take it to a whole new level. A really unique talent, has an odd running style but he has good speed, nice footwork and can offload at will.

To quote Andrew Johns "For a big man he's so fast and skilful, he'll play for NSW next year".

Yeah i cant figure it out either, but when ever i talked him up this year i was accused of being biased. Woods, Vaughan and Klemmer are the future for the NSW front row

Trbojevic and Junior Paulo look likely as well if they keep improving...

Yes, Macca should start hitting his straps, as should Harris....have both had a solid couple of years learning their craft and have more in them than being just journeymen. With Bromwich & Proctor entering the 'prime years', some young talented forwards like Kaufusi & Asofa-Solomona nipping at their heels and fewer old heads playing it safe I'm hoping it is a breakout year for the Storm forward pack as a unit! Time to get creative.

Looking to see how Te Maire Martin goes too...talent & instinct to burn so hopefully he is coached to use that to maximum effect. Good for the Kiwis lol.

It's allowed in this thread :D

On that note - also looking to see Munster break out (again) but at centre/ wing/ half perhaps & Cheyse Blair get the team work & support to see him have a great year

No Tigers fans contributed yet so I'll give 2 for them. David Nofoaluma and Jesse Sue.

Coming into his fourth year of first grade unbelievably this is the first pre season Nofo has had. He missed the entire 13/14/15 pre seasons and opening rounds. I'm not a big stats guy but in his first year he finished second in tackle busts despite only playing something like 14 games. The next 2 years he has been up there too. Close to the best dummy half runner in the NRL, safe under the high ball and tremendous finisher. In the juniors he was Wests, NSW and Aus fullback over Tedesco. It was only come NYC that Teddy over took him at the 1. If he has an injury free year he should represent City and push for furhter honours.

Sue has been a consistent performer for a couple of years now. With Taupau and Galloway moving on he will make the Tigers number 10 his own. Is the fittest guy at the club, plays big minutes, one of the highest tackle effeciences in the NRL and posses a good offload. Has represented Samoa for a couple of years now and I'd expect him to push for a NZ spot in 2016.

In the NYC Evans always looked more impressive than Napa, I was suprised Napa hit first grade earlier and with much more impact than Evans. I still think Evans will be the better all round player based off last year.

Hoping he comes home to Leichhardt one day.
