While I have very few problems of him playing for Manly, I do feel a bit uneasy about him being hailed as Manly's great saviour. Yes, he had a good game, but lets not forget the seriousness of the charges he has against him.

Of course, but he has been found guilty of nothing, why should an innocent man not have the right to do his job? Once the trial happens and if he is found guilty then whatever, ban him for life (moot point anyway as he'd be in jail). Remember laffranchi and crocket had the same charges haning over their heads, I see no reason why he cant play until his trial.

yep from the replies no one seems to give a crap that the guy who the NRL has backed to be the face is up for sexual assault. what does the league say if he is found guilty, who will look like teh merkin then. The NRL should have stepped him out of the game until he was in fact proven innocent

I'd go with something along the lines of "we allowed a man who was at the time innocent of any crime his right to do his job. Unfortuantly for all involved, he has since been found guilty of sexual assualt and is banned from our comp forever".

But rape implies something worse than what has been reported to have happened. To me (and perhaps its just me) rape says forcing sex on someone who doesnt want it, and that is not what is alleged to have happened.

I wonder how many footballers were taken advantage of by young groupies. If the footballer was that drunk that they didn't really know what her was doing then technically, the girl has committed sexual assault against the footballer. It usually takes 2 to tango.

However, I never heard the "Stewart faces charges of sexual intercourse without consent" line until that post. All I've heard is things like groping, kissing and digital penetration, which I believe was him allegedly sticking his fingers in her mouth? I do not consider that type of digital penetration rape, and I'm guessing thats the reason the word rape has been thrown in. But hey, I could be wrong. Its only what I've seen reported, but I never, ever heard a report saying he had alleged sex with her against her will.

Fair enough I suppose, but sexual assualt seems like a blanket term which could be anything from sex to a kiss and anything in between, whereas rape is more specific. I'm not talking in terms of NSW law but in general.
