I was at his first game for us back in 1979 where he chimed into the backline with grace and speed. Gave Manly a thrashing. Onwards and upwards from then. Graeme Wynns first game too, he killed it.
Did Les Johns ever play lower grades at the Dragons before going over to the dogs??I was at that game as well.Dragons firing from start to finish.Great brilliant attacking football. No wonder they won the comp that year.I think the Dragons Reserves won the Wooden Spoon that year as well- An Unusual Event.Brian Johnson always reminded me of Les Johns in looks and in general play.
No I don’t believe so; straight from Newcastle club football to the ‘Berries’. Played cricket for St George at one point I think.Did Les Johns ever play lower grades at the Dragons before going over to the dogs??
of myHow good was this Bloke ?
Just watching some old footage - outstanding. League Writer Geoff Prenter loved him (as did my Family). A terrific Footballer but an even better Fellow. Another that left us too soon.
