He is releasing players left, right and centre.

He has signed 5 stars, and the rumour mills have linked us to Marsh and Harris.

If all this comes to fruition, then there is one thing which immediatelysprings to mind:

IF we do get all these players, then there is NO EXCUSES for 2005. Injuries to our stars would be the only slightly bearable excuse, but then again - our depth for 2005 is looking amazing.

If we don't make the Top 4 next year with the team we will have, then he is GOOOOOONE.

And he knows it.

Yep i think that as well. Let him use the players he has brang to the club. I think next year looks good on paper. But if we dont gegt a good halves combination it will be another "what couldve been" year. WShich we all have gotten used to. He has yet to bring a descent half to the club excpet taylor. Expect a big signing because Witt will not win us a premiership.

I think it's hilarious - in his own selfish way of saving his career, he is bringing our club down.

And I still get the feeling that, even with all the talent coming on board, we will still struggle next year.

Let me tell you something. Witt on his own will not do anything. Forwards make number 7's look good. And another thing if we are lucky enough and get PJ Marsh back, Witt will be fighting with John Morris as the number 6 next year. For me Morris would be our 6 every time. Therefore Witt must show something soon. I hope he does I actually like the kid.

"In his own selfish way" eh?.....god some of you ppl can be frickin critical unnecessarily.

The guy is trying to make our bloody team better - why don't u just be frickin happy that there is a good chance that will happen with some good players coming on board. ....so many ppl on this forum are so blinded by their hatred of the guy that they talk utter crap!

Smith has alledgedly resigned twice and it hasnt been approved. So good luck to him. Just imagine losing all your stars to injury. As a coach these things make or break you. I think the main problem is that we havent been able to secure a descent 5/8. Its our halves and Smith has beeen unable to create a good combination since 2001. I do not hate smith. He is a good bloke but it is a case of his style gone stale.

Yeah, be tough on the old bastard and only give him 9 seasons to get it right! That'll scare him!

See above. 8 years of 'bringing players to the club' for lousy 12th spot on the ladder!

Since when does a resignation have to be approved? Why can't he just leave????

As far as I am concerned, Smith has been digging his grave for so loing that it's now a bloody open cut mine! Keep him any longer and he'll be in China!

There are no more excuses. No more softc*ck ideas about giving him another chance. We want sucess. I have a finite life span. I figure I have about 40 years left on the planet. It will take that long to piss Smith off if some people had their way!

If the guy is trying to make the team better - he's failed miserably! It's no better - in fact worse, than it was under Hilditch.

Leasa, with Smith, he's only damned BECAUSE he doesn't!

I don't hate the guy.

But why did he release BOTH the best natural 5/8's at the club? Sure, thorman chose to leave - why wouldn't he? He was played at halfback and hooker before being put at 5/8, where he shone.

And he is trying to save his career.

Surely you must see that he is stale by now? So he resorts to signing big names (which I am pleased about).

But mate, if he doesn't have big success, which he should have considering our team next year, then even BS needs to realise his time with us is up.

You know what I meant Misty.

If it were up to me, I'd pay him out. We need a new approach.

I am VERY appreciative of what Brian Smith and his administration did in their early days at Parramatta. But the fact remains - after that fateful night in 2001, we should have come out all guns firing for 2002. Yes, injuries and suspensions played a part. But that is where quality signings came in, or Juniors. And we didn't exactly excel there.

He has a sort of new lease on life next year - a truckload of talent, a busload of excellent Juniors and what looks to be an incredibe team on paper. But one can't help but think that he brought all this out of desperation.

For instance, why didn't we sign any more talented players for 2002? The only high profile player we signed was Dykes. In 2003 we signed Cannings, but who else?

OK, maybe we didn't have the money or whatever. Then IMO he should have promoted great Juniors ahead of people like Treacy, Leyshon and Pearson. He didn't.

There are two trains of thought - that he should get first crack at his new recrits and that he shouldn't.

I don't really care - he isn't going anywhere either way.

But this surely must be the final straw. For next year, barring excessive injuries, there is no excuse not to perform. I mean, this back row is enough to make enough green with envy:

11. Hindmarsh
12. Morrison
13. Wagon

Two attacking powerhouses with great defence and a lock who tackles anything that moves. That can compete with any back row in the comp, I dare say. You could even omit Wags, put Glenn at lock and Caylo i the number 12, and it would look equally as good.

No offence guys, and I understand that the '01 Newcastle side was a good side, but you didn't have any excuses for the 2001 GF either. You should've blitzed that team by 30.

I know the Dragons choke, but we choke when we lead

I agree with the No 11 and No 12 as being great players. Hindmarsh is easily one of the top 5 Backrowers in the game, along with Tallis, Sonny Bill Williams, Thompson, and Fitzgibbon. Morrison is a player in the same mould as Hindmarsh, but with more ball playing ability.

But Wagon?! No offence guys, but the blokes worthless. I'd put anyone else in there and relegate Wagon to the oranges. Master of the flop he is, I really don't understand what people see in him. Then again, I guess its the same with Timmo, noone understands why Saints fans rate him but we do. But when Wagon played for the Saints he was useless even then!

Opinion but anyway...

well Wagon makes 40+ tackles a game and makes at least 38 or 39 of those really count and when he is not forced to play 5/8 and forced to come up with plays can even chime in when he feels like it and make a good play or give a good pass

Wagon is still alright and i do think the pack will start off looking like the following in 2005:

13. Wagon
12. Morrison
11. Hindmarsh
10. Vella
9. Riddell
8. Cayless (c)

I don't understand what happened that night, there should not be excuses for then either.

Wagon offers NOTHING in attack, but if you watch his games, he always cleans up loose balls and makes important tackles, and every once in a while even comes up with a big hit.
