I support him - he's part of our team.

People can bitch and whine all they want - fact is, like what he does or not he's here to stay for at least a while and all the bitching and rumours doesn't help our team one frickin bit.

I support him too. While I can understand everyone getting disenchanted with our performances of late, I still think he is a good coach.

Pros:

* Improved our club VASTLY in the early days

* 2000 to 2001 seasons

* Has a great habit of taking unwanted players and making them shine

Cons:

* He just doesn't have the right answers - fair dinkum, if a team outplays you, then you may lose. But CHRONICALLY losing matches against teams that played no better than you is NOT in this category.

* He DOES play favourites.

* He insists for too long with ideas which don't work.

* I think he's losing his coaching flair.

All that said, I will support him until he leaves (he IS trying to win a Premiership or at least make us competitive), but my patience grows thinner each and every BAD PERFORMANCE (I have no problems losing so long as we try hard).

I support him because after all he is still our coach and I hope and pray [-o< he figures out how to bring us back some success. I've just got no confidence in him and I don't think he's capable of doing it based on his approach during the pre-season and the first 10 rounds of this season...

No i don't,He has grown stale at Parramatta and we need a new coach,Smith has had far too many chances.

When you get rid of player like Scott Donald who was your best winger in 2001 and replace him with an overated hack like Mat Petersen you know somethings wrong.

Plus all the other rubbish he has brought to the club to try and replace lost stars like Ryan,Hindmarsh and Marsh.

I think Brian Smith has been tremendous for Parramatta. After the mediocre results we achieved under John Monie (for the last 3 years), Mick Cronin, and Ron Hilditch, BS has really lifted the club. In the early to mid nineties we werent even devoloping the younger players that we were producing right through the eighties. BS has rectified that situation tremendously, and we are still producing top shelf junior players. However, the results of our first grade side have now slide to a level that is no longer acceptable to me.

The reason why i now want him replaced are simple. I truly believe Brian is doing his very best, and has always. It is just that he very best is not good enough. He has even given up the Country Origin job this year to concentrate on the Eels for limited results. I do not expect of Brian, nor anyone else for that matter, to do any better than their very best.

That is the reason why this week i have realised it is time to move on. This opinion is mine, and boy oh boy, do i hope and pray i am wrong.

We've had two straight losing seasons and are looking down the barrel of a third. It is clear that we can't compete with the top teams. We need someone with a fresh perspective to come in and take over from Brian.

He has managed to take a team from the doldrums and put them in the Grand Final. I admire and respect him for that however decisions that have been made since that time have worn me down considerably. He has battled on from that and accepted that his decisions were wrong and tried to change them. His decisions so far have not borne fruit and I am finding it increasingly hard to support his decisions at the moment but am more disgruntled by the boards lack of action over Smith's tenure. If they wish for him to stay then come out and say it and whilst not happy I'll support their decision however hard it may be as a result.

I do however implore them that they please not leave it until the last minute to tell him that his time is at an end. If he is time is up do it now so at least a new coach has the oppurtunity to find the players he can work with and those that he can't.

I guess I'm the same as most other ppl here.

I used to support him, and I thought he was very innovative.

He appears to be either arrogant or stubborn or both, with his persisting with game plans that dont work, hoping that oen day they will, and he can again be described as innivative.

The big forward pack, for instance, clearly has not worked.

Perhaps he is past his "use by" date.

How manu coaches keep a job for this long, Kevin Sheedy and David Parkin (from AFL) come to mind. But they had premierships every couple of years to show for it.

We seem to be going backwards.

If the coach is not responsible for this, who is.

Would like to see him play a role at Parra similar to what Gould does at Roosters. Basically oversees all the teams and assists the coaches more rather than play a lead role. Give the coaching role to JT. Brian has a lot to offer the club but I don't think as the first grade coach anymore.

If you have no confidence in him, why suport him????? :?

Cos thats what being a supporter is about.....through thick and thin.

In the late 80s, early 90s when Parra couldn't beat a dead cat with a stick, I had absolutely NO CONFIDENCE in our defence - dead set I believed the opposition would score EVERY time they had the ball....but did I stop supporting them? no.....they may have been the worst Parra sides I have ever seen, but they were still doing all they could to get somewhere and if you believe they are doing their best, you should support them through the good times and the bad.

JT is not the answer to the coaching problems by any stretch of the imagination
FWIW whoever is the coach at Parramatta has my support...because That's my team

And why was it supposed to happen this year?....because you believed a rumour spread by someone who wants BS gone?

Don't believe anything till you hear it from the horses mouth.

He was great when he first came, turned a side sitting at the bottom of the ladder into a premiership force. He also took us to a grand final and deserves credit for that. However, he is no longer the coach he was, he's gone stale at Parramatta and we need a fresh face.

The team is getting worse and worse, yet Smith continues to pick basically the same players that keep on failing. And using the same strategies that keep on failing. That is the sign of a man who's lost the plot and is just being a stubborn prick, because if your team was struggling and didn't look like improving, you'd try something different wouldn't you? I know I would, even if it was a long shot.

I'm sorry, he did try something different last week. He dropped our most creative attacker to the bench. The leading try assister in the team. He brings in a guy who's only been in Aus for a few weeks and partners him with noone (well Wagon). Surely if the team was having some problems attacking, you'd leave you prime attacking weapon on the field and give him some support with a real 5/8.

I don't support Smith, but I do want the team to win.
