so all the other reasons were just bullshit ?
I think that the other reasons are bullshit myself.

I think that Ricky is picking on what he perceives to be a good attitude. I think that he thinks Jarryd needs a kick up the bum and he has given him one.

1. Jarryd Hayne should feel unlucky

Remember when we all though Jarryd Hayne was the best player in the world? You should. It wasn’t that long ago. Less than 18 months to be precise. Hayne had just taken Parramatta to the grand final. He had been handed the Dally M and Golden Boot. He was on his way to becoming a legend. Then 2010 came along and Parramatta stunk. Hayne was still pretty good, but he suffered as his side did. This season, the Eels have oscillated between average and awful. Hayne has missed some footy, but he’s still been Parramatta’s most dangerous player. Most experts would comfortably rank him in the game’s top 10. Yet he can’t crack the NSW side. The same NSW side that’s been belted by Queensland the past five years. Hayne should be seething. He’s one of the few Blues to emerge with his reputation intact from years of beatings at the hands of the Maroons. Yet he can’t make the NSW side. I’ll say it again. Yet he can’t make the NSW side. Maybe coach Ricky Stuart is trying to put a rocket under Hayne. Maybe he’s finding out what Hayne is made of. Maybe he sees something others don’t. Maybe he just doesn’t rate him. Or maybe, just maybe, he got it wrong.

Maybe Ricky Stuart is just a f**kwit. And lets not forget Bozos and Mcarthys finger prints are all over this. I mean the Gildey/cap/fullback fiasco from last year still does my head in.

The NSW have done my head in for years - so much so it's now inside out.
Some say that it's an improvement. I can't disagree with them.

I don't know a lot about Bob McCarthy, but Fulton is a dead set f**king tool.
Lucky Daley got out of there, but still, his fingerprints are also all over this side.
I've always hated Qld. It just goes with being a Blue. I can't bring myself to cheer for them, but I hate what is happening to this NSW team. And it ain't all about Hayne either.

For the first time since Origin was invented, I really couldn't give a f**k who wins.

i hoped last year that NSW would get flogged so they'd make changes

they made some this year and have only made it even worse

so here's hoping to 3 absolute floggings if this team is maintained and also so Stuart and the selectors all get sacked

x2, living up here in cornfed territory it makes it even worse. Every Canetoad i have spoken too can't believe the team. One bloke looked at me and laughed and said i don't even have to say a word.

I mean how many series will it take to get rid of the same selectors that have presided over 5 series and soon to be 6 series losses?? I mean these pelicans are more protected than the Aussie cricket selectors

Maroons surprised by Hayne's absence

Wayne Heming AAP Mon, May 16, 2011 - 5:38 PM

Queensland coach Mal Meninga says the Maroons aren't doing backflips after learning NSW had left dynamic fullback Jarryd Hayne and giant centre Jamal Idris out of their 17-man State of Origin side.

"He would be in Queensland's team somewhere," said a former Queensland great, echoing the initial reaction of many to Hayne's stunning Origin omission.

"How many bad Origins has he played?"

But while NSW fans and many Queenslanders were shocked Blues selectors could not find places for two of the game's most dangerous players, Meninga backed his NSW counterpart Ricky Stuart.

Meninga said Stuart had been around Origin and had enjoyed enough success to know the type of player he needed to win.

Queensland have found the perfect formula after winning the past five Origin series in a row, which is why worried NSW officials asked Stuart - the last man to take the Blues to a 2-1 series win in 2005 - to return the passion and pride to the Blues jumper.

"Not really," offered Meninga when asked by AAP if he was surprised Hayne and Idris had not made Stuart's squad.

"He (Stuart) and I think Bozo (Bob Fulton) have picked a side based on a fair bit of character really.

"Origin's built on character. Ricky knows that.

"He understands that, he's played it (14 games), he's coached at that level.

"He's picked a team he believes is going to turn their fortunes around."

Meninga's 30-year affair with Origin - he played 32 games, including the first match in 1980 - and his close relationship with his former Canberra and Australian teammate gives him a much deeper insight into Stuart's mindset.

Raiders fullback Josh Dugan will make his debut in the No.1 jumper for the Blues ahead of Hayne with Stuart also preferring a Penrith flyer Michael Jennings on the left to wrecking ball Idris, a right-side centre.

Meninga said the NSW side possessed ample aggression, a good work rate and plenty of character.

It had been hand picked by Stuart to do a special job.

"Ricky has picked a team for Origin who'll hang tough under pressure and show the character you need," said Meninga.

"It's going to be a huge challenge for us."

Idris made his debut for Australia earlier this month at left centre when Inglis re-injured his hip, scoring a barnstorming try.

Many expected the raw-boned youngster would secure a Blues Origin jumper on the strength of his Test against the Kiwis, but Stuart wanted a specialist left centre in Jennings, who is yet to really light up in three Origins.

"Idris, Jamie Lyon and (Mark) Gasnier, all those guys are right-handed players and Gasnier got the nod there," said Meninga.

"I can understand why he's done that (picked Jennings) this particular time."

Meninga said even without tough Dragons prop Michael Weyman, the NSW pack looked strong and hard working.

"Trent Merrin and Tim Mannah won't let him down," said Meninga when asked about Weyman's absence.

"Merrin is untried at that level but he's been doing it week in and week out for the Dragons and there's clearly a Dragon feel to the NSW side."

Queensland, meanwhile, have returned 100kg bookend back-rowers Corey Parker and Jacob Lillyman on the bench to ensure they can bend back the Blues as they hammer them up the middle third.

Both can push up into the front row, which will help Meninga's prop rotation and they can stand their ground and tackle all night in the middle.

Joke of a decision to leave him out of the NSW team, but it definitely mentions the elephant in the room - mentions it, douses it in petrol and sets it alight. Hayne should be playing as our 5/8, and ironically Sticky will be the one that makes us better as a result, provided Hayne sees the writing on the wall.

PS - he wont need as much composure in 2012 if Sandow will be the one leading the team around the park.

I'm sorry? How will it help?

We have no other option for fullback.
Hayne can play fullback defensively, forces the opposition to kick chase at their best every time AND STILL manages to create everything for us in attack.

The "elephant in the room" that it highlights is the need for someone else to play 5/8 who can set up a play of some sort (any sort).

Stuart has not idea. Hayne should be the first picked on his previous origin form. As NSW supporter I will be supporting QLD this year and hope that NSW get done 3 nil

the thread isn't about idris, but yes, he should have been in the side as well.

they can talk about players playing in their club positions all they want. but how often do you see wingers swap with fullbacks, wingers swap with centres, centres and back rowers play the same style, etc....

qld have picked players out of their club positions for ages and it hasn't affected them (boyd and before him, slater playing wing, folau on the wing, prince at 5/8 even though it ain't that different to 7, etc). our selectors are a joke. from memory daley used the fact they weren't being paid and it was their time they were giving up as some sort of rationale for why they deserved to be selectors last year. blues have been a joke for a while now.

fact is hayne should have been there.

OMC,

we have plenty of other options at Fullback.....Burt, Reddy, Atkins, Walker, Hicks....hell even Morts could probably make a go of Fullback, not sure about taking bombs though???

he already plays as a 5/8in attack and he already shows composure

I don't see a problem
I think you might have hit the nail on the head Twiz - the part of the 5/8 role Jarryd doesn't do (and has never done) is the front line defence.

Maybe that's why he says he doesn't have the composure to make the switch to the #6 jersey for a few years, and wants to stay a fullback. It's a pretty good gig when you get free reign in attack as a pseudo playmaker, but don't have to carry the defensive workload that is directed by the opposition at guys like Morts and Robson.

And for many of our fans, Jarryd at fullback doesn't have to have strong kick returns, decent defensive positioning, or good organisational skills, because his contribution in attack is so good. No wonder he doesn't want to swap - he's on the best money in the backline and can be selective about the work he does. Ricky's called him on his current style of fullback play, and doesn't think it's a long-term winner for rep footy at least. Our team's results for the past 18 months would tend to suggest Ricky has a point?
