Poor Dally forgetting that the NRL pretty much gifted Optus and Packer the TV rights for very little...

But of course Super League was the only ones who damaged the game, and not the amateur administrators of the ARL and the clubs. And let's forget the ARL didn't run the game for 100 years.

Not too mention the ARL expanded those 4 teams in 1995 in response to the threat of Super League... But hey ARL was for expanding the game, even if it meant letting the clubs fall apart (i.e. such as forcing the Reds to pay for the flights of the away sides travelling to Perth - before they signed with SL).

Can we just accept it's happened? We need News Ltd out of the game now, and some passionate, INDEPENDANT and PROFESSIONAL businessmen running the game.

the nrl signed the rights to optus - mistake number 1
the nrl expanded because of the threat of SL - mistake number 2
supporting the cronulla sharks - mistake number 3

Yeah the likes of Luke Dorn would be superstars in the NRL :sarcasm:
Check out some of the 80 players overseas before throwing that stat around

There is at least two top 8 NRL sides in the ESL and probably one semi decent squad.

Here's one off the top of my head:

1. Webb
2. Donald
3. King
4. Gidley
5. Webster
6. Barret
7. Monaghan
8. Paleaaesina
9. Berrigan
10. Vella
11. Croker
12. Newton
13. Morrison

14. Kusak
15. Luat'iti
16. Mogg
17. Whaturia
18. Crossman
19. Cayless
20. Solomona

There are currently in the region of 130 ex first grade NRL players no longer playing in the NRL! With a salary cap nearer $6mill these players could be heading for Perth or Adelaide instead of Leeds or St Helens and we could actually turn the tables and start attracting some of the best English players to the NRL.

you would think news ltd would want to protect their shareholding wouldnt you.

look at their papers, any chance to talk RL down its there.

your post seems to agree pretty much for the need of people independant of news ltd in negotiating our tv deals.

news ltd will always pay the least they can and we need proper leaders who will be prepared to take it elsewhere if they dont

have to agree,i believe news lmtds objective is to kill league to the point where we have to merge with union.how can someone who owns a game constantly run it and its players into the ground via its media outlets.their aim is to lower the price by making it unpopular.have a look at the negative articles by the journos in the tele, would someone who cared about league let their own people do that while letting another sport pay for positive press, news are scum and we have to get rid of them out of our game or they will kill us.

And who do you suggest is going to pay the $100's of million to keep the game going? I am all for getting News away from running the game but we need them involved through decent pay TV deals or we really would be stuffed!

Even in Britain the only thing SL did that really worked was moving to summer. All the added bullsh*t like stupid team names and gay jerseys didn't cut it there.

Firstly, typo corrected. Secondly, 'stupid team names', you mean like many of the current NRL ones? I mean we see lots of wild Tigers around Leichardt don't we?

And I'm inundated with Dragons down at Kogarah! FFS man you really have done it now!

English RL is just as minor as it has ever been. It's only the fans of the SL clubs that think otherwise. The rest of the country don't give a sh*t. The BBC treat the game like rubbish. CC games are a joke these days and the SL show is only shown in the north or at ludicrous hours. International football was nearly killed BY SUPER LEAGUE. Typical poms trying to blame "Australians" for it when the ARL (and Fiji) were the only ones that stood up to News Ltd. And I didn't say it didn't have benefits but anyone who thinks RL in England is way better off now is kidding themselves. RL is still a freckle on fleas bollocks in the sporting landscape in Britain and even smaller when you consider that internationals were the only thing that got the game some attention and they can't even sell them there now.

Perth was not going under. It played about three games before News Ltd broke so you can be sure News Ltd had been courting them even before the ever played a game. The scumbags stabbed the ARL in the back, the organisation that gave them life, and got what they deserved. Once News had used them they tossed them away like the piece of garbage they were. Financial lifeline? Some bloody lifeline. Now the Reds are back and who do they go to for a handout? The ARL of course. Anyway, like I said, ask John Quayle about it.

I can't believe nearly 15 years on and all the damage that was done f**kwits who support the traitorious scum clubs that nearly killed RL by forming SL still try to claim that they did the right thing.

A complete F**wit! You know F-all about the game in BRITAIN sunshine!

At least there are some Sharks at Cronulla and Sea Eagles in Manly, maybe a chook or two in the Eastern Suburbs. I bet there's a horse somewhere in Brisbane and most likely some Cowboys in North Qld. Melbourne weather sux so prob get some good storms there. Somebody in belmore has to own a bulldog surely. We haven't got all the names that wrong

Dally have you lost your mind - or what you had left of it...

I didn't say the NRL did the above but the ARL... in case you have been living in a hole, the NRL didn't exist previous to 1998...
