Pretty f*cken huge dog move from Michael if it all goes through.

But a great signing for the Bombers if they can pull it off!

I agree

how can you retire than come out of retirement for another team next season

he hasn't really retired at all, just tried to beat to draft,

Effectively beaten the draft.

Scummer bleating about innocence for me would have held more weight if you didn't take into account the monetary issue.

Brisbane were to pay him 350k next season, the Scummers will now pay 550k per year for 2 years.

They should have signed him to 350k for '07 then resigned him for 750 for '08

Good work?

As an Essendon hater I have to say I am happy Sheedy has done this. See if you can guess why ...

I say good on him & his manager if they pull this off. People get screwed over contracts every day & if Brisbane, the AFL or anyone else missed this then stiff sh*t. Not saying it's morally right but it's hardly his fault if he uses the rules to his own advantage. You can bet your first born child that clubs would use any possible means to eek out something to their benefit so why shouldn't it go down as swings & roundabouts?

I dson't think its a good move from Mal, I mean in 5 years time when he actually does retire, people aren't going to rmember him for bein the ultimate professional key position player in na 3 time premiership winning team, they'll rmember him as the bloke who dogged it hard. Hopefully Browny will put him in his plac when the 2 sides meet

low act by the Bombers and even lower if the AFL allow them to get away with it

I wonder how many players will now be retiring at the end of this season

Hold on Twiz, remind me exactly what we did wrong. Michael retired, a few months later he came to us saying he'd regained the passion for the game. It was Brisbane's fault for not putting a clause in his retirement contrat not ours. We have done what every single other club would have done if a player apporached their clubs. We did nothing wrong.

what you did wrong was condone such behavior

he obviously didn't retire, just used it as a sly way to get out of his contract

surely you're not that gullible, if he wasn't retiring, he'd still be with the Lions

What behaviour? We signed him as he wanted to play in Melbourne after his re-think about his retirement. He was retired. It was Brisbane's fault, that there was no clause in his contract. Essendon did nothing wrong, in fact every single othern club would have done the same thing as he is a class player. We are able to help him out in his charity thing a lot more and his training will probally diffeerent- something the Lions could not do.

For once I actually agree with you. This is spot on. As much as I'd love to sledge the Bombers, they ARE legally clean on this one.

Although I don't know if every club would take a bloke who went to the media and said his heart wasn't in the game anymore.

Thanks Tiger. Most clubs would take a AA defender any day of the week! You could do with a few defenders Tiger!

I think everyone is just sore that he chose to approach the Bombers and not their club.

We have done nothing wrong. As far as im concerned Brisbane were the stupid ones who didn't put any appropriate clauses in his retirement contract. If he 'regains passion for the game' who are we to deny him?

As for the onfield stuff, it will certainly sure up our defence. We'll finally have two solid key defenders to take key forwards in Fletch and Mal, that will allow us to use Lucas as either a floating backman, or as i would like to see, a CHF...we all know he has one hell of a boot on him.

Will backfire on the Bombers anyway, so its all good.

Michael is a slow, limited defender, older than his actual years and clearly struggling to find the intensity and dedication required to continue competing effectively at the top level. His best football is well behind him, he has been well and truly sated by past success, and his head is off in other places.

I think its great that Essendon has foregone the necessary development of a promising young defender (they could have snared Eric MacKenzie in the draft, after all) in order to contribute much superannuation dollars to another yesterday's man whom the game has passed by.

Will struggle in a struggling side.
