Not that I believe a word Grant says but........
ARL Commission chairman John Grant has declared another southeast Queensland team is in prime position for the next NRL premiership expansion berth.
The expansion bid teams for Brisbane and the Western Corridor centred on Ipswich will be emboldened by Grants claim that the Queensland marketplace is not being taken advantage of by rugby league
Couriermail.com.au believes that the NRL views expansion from 16 clubs as a subsequent step after it first invests in improving clubs in the second-tier competitions, the Queensland and NSW Cups.
The bid terms, together with those from Perth, Wellington and other centres, want the NRL to grant one or two new licenses for 2018, the first year of the new Channel 9 agreement.
We have flagged the fact when you look at where the players are placed and where the fans are placed there is a marketplace in Queensland is potentially not being taken advantage of, Grant said.
We have provisions (in the free-to-air broadcast agreement) for a 17th team in Brisbane.
Asked if the head of the queue of options was a second Brisbane team as competition for preliminary finalists Brisbane, Grant said: I think southeast Queensland.
Queensland has multiple centres of high density and we have to make sure our NRL and Queensland Cup teams are appealing to those communities.
