Great coaching by Raiders legend (I use that term loosely) Maguire.

He turned a bunch of over-priveleged, unfit primadonnas into a team which broke the most inexplicable drought in RL history. Well done Madge.

I legit didn't want us to hire Madge. Not because I thought he couldn't coach. But because I thought our boys couldn't handle him.

What he has done is truly incredible. We seemed to have a toxic culture dating back to around when Locky retired. Now it seems he has finally killed that. Brisbane 2026 premiers.

I don't think there's another coach in the NRL who gets the job done at Brisbane this year. Not Bennett, not Bellamy, not anyone. They needed someone to ruthlessly kick their arse but care about them enough simultaneously. And he got it done perfectly. The belief, the fitness, the hunger they had to have to come from 12 points + in all three finals to win it, geez you can be proud of that as a coach. That's as good as a coach can do, especially from a bunch of prima donnas who finished 14th or whatever the previous year and had been to finals what, once in 4 years?

But Gordey reckons Walters deserves the credit

I always say there are a few coaches that can get you from 0 to 90 but there aren’t many who can get you from 90 to 100. Madge is one of those coaches. He isn’t a club builder or a tactical genius, but he will extract an extra 10% out of his players for a few years. Take that 10% away and they lose to Melbourne. They also would have lost to Penrith and to Canberra as well.

It’s often what people say about Stuart at the Chooks, Gould and Muzz built the squad then Sticky came in and took them the final few steps of the way.

If I was starting a new club tomorrow I would not hire Madge, nor would I bring him back to the Tigers, but if I had a top 4 roster that couldn’t get it done he’d be number 1 coach on my shortlist.
