Broncos No.6

With all the conjecture about who should be the Broncos five-eigth, I think the answer is glaringly obvious......Ben Barba. He has racked up a high number of try assists, given the number of times he touches the ball this season. Who in the team has a better short kicking game? With his nimble footwork, speed off the mark and ability to read the game make him the standout canindate. He would have the defense in at least two minds, he has so many options. He isn't the right build for fullback anyway, too short to take the highball and too light to be running the ball out to a line of big forwards just waiting to smash him or push him back into the in-goal.
I might be mad, but I was calling for Darren Lockyer to switch to five-eigth three years before it finally happened. This needs to be done sooner or later with Milford on his way. In the meantime Hoffman can return to his favoured fullback position.

If we had plans to play Barba at Five-Eighth and Milford at Fullback, Barba would already be playing there.

We don't have Tonie Carroll anymore to be Barba's body guard. Won't work.

Barba's tackling style is more an invitation to proceed further down field than anything else.

He should be less isolated in defense at five-eigth. I think Matt Gillette would look after him.

If he does a straight up swap, he'd be defending on Glenn's side.

I think Glenn would make a better body guard than Gillette, Gillette can put big hits on but sometimes makes bad reads. In saying that, it's definitely not the same security as TC was.

Why are we talking about Glenn and Gillett being body guards, they're the 2 worst defensive backrowers in the NRL for 2 years running, in terms of missed tackles.

I agree Barba should play five eight, especially next year. He could defend on the wing, its been done before.

This year I'd like to see Hodges fullback

As strange as it may seem, Hoffman's preferred position is actually 5/8th. He wanted to move there from fullback a couple of years ago and Hook said it was off the cards.
