Broncos Re-Signings

The Broncos have completed a $2 million retention coup with in-form representative duo Matt Gillett and Jack Reed securing upgraded deals to stay at Red Hill.

Gillett and Reed have inked new contracts in a major boost for the Broncos ahead of Friday night's Queensland blockbuster against the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

The 24-year-olds were to come off contract at season's end but Broncos recruitment chief Andrew Gee has moved swiftly to reward Reed and Gillett for their blistering early-season form.

Brisbane hierarchy will announce the pair's re-signing at a press conference this morning.

It is understood utility Gillett has signed a deal to stay at the Broncos until the end of 2016, while centre Reed has also received a lucrative multi-year extension.

That leaves the only "Big" names off-contract after this year as; Copley, Hunt, Kahu, Maranta.

Yeh -Someone is going to make a play for Hunt fast... I am sure Broncos are stringing him along to resign him also, but why not now? We just lost Norman and even if we keep him as our bench utility until we can figure out the halves situation I say sign the guy!

Kahu and Copley also if they haven't got massive deals elsewhere. Not too fussed if Maranta goes...

Same here, Maranta is a solid winger at best, I don't think he has any attacking prowess, I hope we retain Kahu and Copley for some depth.

Glad about Gillet, still not sure about Reed. He needs to keep playing like he has the last couple of weeks to justify it.

@unbreak. I'd prefer Option 1 with a good signing or if Kahu/Bond want to step up. Hoffman is going very well on the wing, and I just think if we have another decent fullback it makes our backline look much stronger with Hoffman on the wing.

I agree we should let Maranta go and hang onto Copley and Kahu.

If Norman is going then we really need to keep Hunt around or buy two halves, one reasonably established and one coming through the ranks (e.g. Milford)

copley if his injuries arent long term definitely needs to be resigned.To solve Broncos long term number nine problems is only a hour down the road.Beau Falloon should be able to be picked up with out spending a lot of money.Hopefully wallace & prince only have short contracts because the broncs need some young halves.One i would be chasing if he comes off contract at the end of 2013 is shaun johnson from the warriors.Talented and young so the club can build around him for several years.Someone like maloney would have been good as well.

Resign hunt for sure. Falloon from titans is a absurd idea considering baptiste is still on our list and Cullen coming thru. Shaun Johnson good talent but I really think we need to develop our own instead. Kodi or even revert kahu back to halves with hunt as halfback. If old Wallace and prince don't last. Norman signature will bite us like when we let gagai go. We need to look after our development system which has served us well in the past.

Well, there's no excuse for Reed and Gillett now. They had better maintain or even improve their form further over the rest of the season. Hunt should be in our firing line next, although I have a feeling he really isn't.
