I read in the paper that Bronx had secured the Fullback spot for 2007 and has really impressed Henry. Henry even said he believes he can fill Clintons void. I spose this is good news its getting harder fining a place for Zilman in the starting13 now after Henry backed Carney and Dobson as halves looks like Zilly may be a center hey

I think you're correct about Zilly at centre (or wing). Henry might rotate Zilly and Carney on occassions between centre and 5/8th.

Whichever way you look at it if the talent that a lot of us have seen in Carney/Zilly/Bronx/Dobbo comes off we are in for a few good years ... maybe not next year but by 2009 we'll be up there in the top 4.

2007 is certainly going to be one of the most interesting years this club have had for some years ... out with the old and in with the new

Damn Straight, I think 07 will be a good year in regards to the youth of the squad, 08, 09 will be crackerjack seasons for us. When we get our reputation back!

Zilly in the centres isn't a bad thing - it's where Daley started out... he will be a better player for it

Hasnt Herny already hinted Howell and Graham would be the centres? Raiders need a Tongueesque benchie, Zillman seems to be the guy who could do it.

Yeah, Zilly on the bench works for me. Can cover the entire backline and would cut tired defences to shreds at the back end of halves.

Yes, although where would that leave Dunneman? Do you think we bought him to play reserves?

I'm not sure what role Henry has for Zillman but by golly I hope it entails less than 60mins of bench warming.

Zillman is the type of player that wins you matches when you least expect it ... the type of talent that you want on the field for 80 mins.

Unfortunately atm we seem to have a glut of halves, and the preferred would seem to be Dobson and Carney. Therefore where do you fit Zillman ?

Zillman does not have the build of your modern day centre ... he's a touch too small in both height and weight ... no problem on the wing ... from what I have heard Zillman would be happy to play any position as long as it is not in PL.

It is going to be one of the interesting positional problems that Henry will have in 2007 ... I just hope he doesnt sentence the guy to the bench for long periods of time.

I have been singing his praises since early 2006 ... I'm sure he'll fulfill my expectations.

Can't see Zillman and Dunemann both on the bench (Dunemann will be in firsts, as a backup hooker IMO coming on to rotate with Linc). I'm tipping maybe Zillman as FB, with Bronx on the wing where he is probably better defensively than if Zilly was out there.

I don't think it's cut and dried that Bronx gets the no. 1, but from what we've read it's a better than even bet. Zilly is the wildcard. I think he'd go OK on the wing but I'd prefer to see him in the centres with Graham. We'd probably leak points like the Titanic, but geez it would be awesome to watch in attack outside Carney and Dobson.

I've never been so keen for the trials to start. I'm sick to death hearing about Carney's burnouts and Costigan's grand final heartbreak.

Zillman at centre looks to be our best hope but where ever he is Henry would have told him already so that he can improve his defence for that position.

Zilly played wing / centre in the Junior Kangaroos game and I really thought he looked lost outside. The ball was not coming to him as first or second receiver and he didn't really know where to go to get it.

I still think he is going to be a fantastic full back, playing off the hips of Carney / Dobbo.

The issue with both Bronx and Zilly is not going to be their attacking ability, because both are very good in that area, it is whether they are strong enough to defend well. Clinton saved us from so many tries in the past couple of years and I just worry that these two blokes may still be a year or two away from being up to NRL standard defensively. Hopefully, they will come through a bit quicker and make me look stupid.

I wouldn't worry too much about this business of fitting in Carney / Dobson / Withers / Dunnemann / Goodwin / Zillman etc. I don't want to put the mocker on any of them, but the law of averages states that at least one of them won't be available for selection each week, so there is going to be plenty of room for players in form, most weeks.

I'd like to see the halves combination settled as quick as possible .... chopping and changing purely because a player didnt have a good game one week is not the way to go .. you need a settled combination with maybe a switch for part of game purely to have the opposition guessing.

If Dobson continues his ESL form he has the No. 7 screwed down ... Carney's running and kicking game gives him the first shot at 5/8th.

Carney would imo make a great cetnre ... subject to a slight improvement in his defense which seemed to be coming on well late last season. But imo he'd be wasted without his hands on the ball.

That leaves the question of Zilly ... as I have previously said I'd like to see him on the field for 80 mins ... imo that means wing or centre, exchanging with Carney for small periods of the game.

Come the end of the trials we'll see were Henry's thoughts are in relation to some great young talent.

Cant see Dunemann being good enough to make the team.
I dig Bronx at fullback, i dig Zillman in the centres for the entire 80, and i dig Carney - Dobson halves combination.
Every since the idea of Zillman at centre was floated by me, ive loved it, there have been some f**king great 5/8ths that kicked things off at centre, Fittler and Daley spring to mind. Zillman is a long term 5/8th. A year or so at centre is a go'er IMO.

Id like to see this.

1. Zillman
2. Goodwin
3. Graham
4. Chalk
5. Best
6. Carney
7. Dobson

Or maybe Goodwin at centre and chalk on the wing. Whoever looks likely when the season starts.

I wouldn't like to see Howell or Frawley in there though.

Agree on Howell... he really came on in leaps and bounds towards the end of last season. Seems Elliott may have been right about him after all! I cringe at the idea of Chalk being a front-line first grader.
