WTF is Bruce McAvaney doing hosting the RWC or rugby union for that matter... He wouldn't know jackshit about the game. Must've done alot of research (and alot of yawning) on the rah-rah game. I LMAO watching him "pretend" to know and have an interest in the game... but I guess you gotta hand it him he is very professional at what he does...

McAvaney was raised in Sydney and grew up a Saint George supporter. He is a pro who has been faking it in AFL country for years.

I think he got the job because he can fake knowledge of any sport (with good reseach) and he is known in the AFL states, and that is where the Union WC is most struggling for credibility.

He got the job because he's Seven's main anchorman, whatever the sport. He also does the Socceroos games. They might have rugby specialists there but they're callers rather than presenters.

It's his job to research and understand what's going on. Whether he likes it or not isn't really relevant - the passion and enthusiasm should come from those around him, not necessarily him. For all his faults, he is the best in Australia at what he does.

Except for Ray Warren.

Ray's a caller, not an anchor. I personally don't like his OTT style but I can understand that he's good at doing it that way.

To compare like with like, Nine's equivalents are Vautin and Eddie McGuire, who don't have the versatility to do other sports. (Well, Eddie's done horse racing but it's not the same). Les Murray on SBS does a fair few sports but he's very soccer-centric.

Ray does all the big swim meets, in fact, he does swimming over league when the two clash.

Well I read an article about him a couple weeks ago and apparently he is quite interested in the game. He has even tried to get union off in South Australia and Tasmania, but has had mixed results. I don't know if its true, but then again it could be.

Poor old Bruce is just boring, and makes his viewers want to doze off into a quiet slumber.
His style of analysis must have been past down to him from the equally insipid Ian Chappell - poor old Berty could sell CD tracks to sleep-deprived people globally.

Bruce, bless his cotton socks, just cannot sustain a full sentence without a seemingly forgetful pause. He will start talking about a topic, then brrrrannnch offf in...to...a coma-inducing phrase, before finally gathering his thoughts to conclude the sentence, like this one.

He either forgets what he started talking about or else actually can't sustain a full and meaningful sentence.

I just get bored by him - that is why Channel 7 has no sport because I, like many, get turned off by Ch 7's lead anchor.

what about that rugby clubhouse thing jeeez that was awful!!!!

a show trying to imitate the footy show with him or buddah as host will never work. I just turned off until Roy and Hg were on, they should get those two for all of it

Yawnion doesn't have any good presenters. Bruce was the best choice.

The best yawnion TV talent is on Fox.
