Brough or Lomax ?

That was my theory, hence i said Sinfield as he does the main kicking for Leeds.

Basically i went through the table and:
Warringtons is Foreign (Briers is Welsh(well at least he stuck with them)),
Wigans is either to old (Deacon) or foreign (Finch),
Saints don't seem to have one (Eastmond but he ain't an option),
Giants out of form and Scottish (Brough) then Leeds.

Both Wigan and Warrington have players coming through, but they are a few years away (Mellor (Wigan) and O'Brien(Warrington)) and Myler is still another season of development from the national team (although Warringtons left side is awesome at the mo).

It seems like It's too old or too young players. Sinfield/Widdop 1/2's with Tomkins fullback for this year maybe pick a young 1/2 for the game against Wales

Time to bring Gaskell and Lomax through. When I see Myler play he has some great touches but doesn't look comfortable leading the team around. How old is he? McGuire has had his chance.

Myler turned 21 last May so is roughly the same age as Lomax and Gaskell. He already has a lot more experience than the saints pair, is learning of the best half back in the game (hence he doesn't always take control, why would he? He led Salford around though so can do it.), tackles very well, very creative, a good kicker and can score a try.

Basically he is a very important part of the best attack and best defence in the league. To dismiss him as someone who stands around waiting for a break is ridiculous.

He is so much better than Gaskell its pointless to compare.
Lomax has a step and can make a break, but hasn't proven he can do anything else yet. He at least needs a full year in super league before he can be considered.

Good to see Burrow and McGuire are coming back into some form, Rob Burrow at his best provides something that no one else can so he could be a good selection on the interchange bench imo.

McGuire looked very good tonight. Not just with his attacking and organising play, but his kicking game was very good too. He is really starting to look like the player that carried Leeds for the whole of last season. I know we let Hudds back into the game tonight but I still think that with McGuire playing we look capable of beating anyone. We just have to stop falling to sleep for 15 minutes or so a game.

Burrow hasnt played 7 since about april I think. He has been the interchange hooker, a la Craig Wing back in the day. He comes on and injects a bit of pace out of dummy half against the tiring defences. This is something that works well too. I have never been a big fan of Burrow as a half because he doesnt have the brain to break down set defences. Out of dummy half though he gets to run at these broken, backtracking D's and causes havok.

Forgot to mention too. Danny McGuire scored his 200th try for Leeds last week in our play off game against Hull. This came in his 269th game. Think he is the 5th person ever to score that amount for Leeds and the 1st non winger. Thats not a bad strike rate for any player, never mind a half back.

I think Rob Burrow has played his way back into contention, not as a starting halfback but as a game breaker coming off the interchange bench.

I think McNamara had earmarked Luke Robinson for that job but his form has been poor, I would have Lomax starting at 7, Brough in the squad as backup and Burrow to interchange with Roby.

I think the Giants players stock have all gone down a bit recently. Brough and Robinson are very good players who could do with a rest.

Another player who should not be picked for this comp is Sam Tomkins. The guy is clearly carrying a knock. Give him a rest. To much to soon is a recipe for disaster. Stick Widdop at FB. Lomax/Sinfield/McGuire with Myler in the halves. Easy money.

A player who is surely playing himself into contention is Riley at Warrington. He was scoring for fun on the left outside of of Atkins (club combinations anyone) or a very good fullback.

WireMan talking up Warrington players and even wanting you to rest your best player to incorporate Myler.

Seems legit.

Watch the saints vs Wigan game. Look at Tomkins.

He was hobbling around watching Wellens(!!) run past him when he scored his try. If you think its a good idea to take a young 'n learnin, one legged halfback to play fullback vs the Aussies then you are McNamara and i claim my £5.

Myler should play regardless of Tomkins. It was two different issues. Widdop and Tomkins can fight over fullback. Neither are needed in the halves.

You cant leave Tomkins out!! Even if he is a little grub!! Anyway, hasnt he got about 3 weeks to get fit? Thats a long time in sport.

I cant fit Myler in my team anywhere either. I have nothing against Warrington players before you say anything either WireMan ;-)

He just isnt good enough for the next level and was anonymous against a good strong Leeds D. Thats the kind of defence he would have to be up against in the 4N.

Brough, even though his form has dropped would still be the smart choice. His kicking game is great and he wouldnt be behind a pack that's getting destroyed (hopefully). Behind him i'd go Lomax or McGuire. McGuire has a decent kicking game annd is really coming back to form. Lomax has impressed me this year andis so good on his feet. He can unlock defences. The only thing im not sure is whether he can take a team around the park and control a game like Brough or McGuire. He is only a kid though.

Well i thought our left side was alright against you, the team as a whole didn't go well. You right side didn't do much though, Burrows was twice the threat McGuire was.

I would say if we are going of one or two games then Tomkins did nothing in the league against Warrington in either game, did nothing agaisnt Saints in the playoffs. So in 4 games against the best teams in the league he was nowhere (didn't see the Saints vs Wigan league games so can't comment).

If Sinfield is 13, then we won't need Brough as Sinfield can do the kicking. We could then have two fast halves to attack the line on either side. Lomax IMO is not experienced enough has never led a team round, can't kick, and is not ready yet. IMO of course.

On a slight side note. Isn't it good to actually have a debate about who should be left out of the team?

The line "I can't fit Myler into the team" to me is a really promising one.

We can have an actual debate about who is best, not least worse.
