Bruce Wilson the Toff - in the Tele

If teams that even faintly threaten to upset the highly-paid professional nations are forced to play depleted XVs then the RWC faces the ignominy of becoming like the sad rugby league "World Cup" in which a team purporting to be from Lebanon appeared, along with "Russians".

Bloody toff! Who is he trying to impress, Stephen Jones? Get your facts straight mate! What was wrong with the Russians. 90% of the players were home grown, and the game has gone from strength to strength since. According to a NZ Herald article the other day, RL is almost fully professional now in Moscow. As for Lebanon, better things are to come with the Mediterranean Cup later this month. Would this have happened without the 2000 WC? I doubt it.

Send your texts to the Tele to give it to this ill informed wanker.

Now, back to drinking here at El concpetion day, which Mr Wilson so rudely interupted.

Firstly, Ali - what were you doing reading the Rah Rah section of the Telecrap for?!
:D
While you're sending you abuse to Mr Wilson, ask him how "Grannygate" in Wales is going & if the "Scottish" players in the Scotland squad are homesick for Bluebird Chips or Rashuns....

Pot...Kettle...Black

Cheers,
Ben S.

I've got an excuse. 2 hours on public transport from the Shire to Macquarie Uni. But I do admit I go looking for Wilson's articles as this is not the first time he's had little digs at League. I'd say over in London he associates with some of the wankers pommie League fans have come to hate, who thankfully have changed their ways in the last couple of years ever since Ray Gents petition. Bruce Wilson is still living in the year 2000, where the media over there thought in was ok to rubbish Rugby League with no facts to back up your point.

Yep Ali, the guy is an idiot.

http://www.rugby-league-world.com/2000/WorldCup/squads.htm

70% of the players were Russian born. Only 7 players out of 24 were not born in Moscow. About 7 Cedars players were born in the Lebanon. The rest qualified fairly under the grandparent rule.

Campbell wouldn't care that he made an unsubstantiated statement, and he will probably defend his position. If he he is a toff, then he will just have a bad attitude about League and would dismiss any reasonable rebuttals you put to him. Why bother trying to educate him? If it will really make you feel better, then write him an email, but it could be better to save your time and ignore it.

Another reason to smile people. Here he is, a U***n man through and through, who all his live has been able to defened his inferior rugby with the (exaggerated) notion of it being a "world game", now he is seeing it crumble before his eyes as pro clubs pressure the lower nation players into turning their back on the "passion and pride" of international u***n for a fistful of cash, correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason these boofheads have scorned Rugby League for a 100+ years.

Whilst Rugby League is expanding at all levels, slowly at some admittedly, u***n seems to be contracting.

Good to see Wallaby Matt Cockbain's brother from Innisfail, QLD, lining up for the Welsh in this "World Cup" that's apparently starting in a few weeks...

Cheers,

Actually if you go through half the sides you'll find a lot of players who were originally based in other countries.

Keith Gleeson - Ireland - was born in OZ.

Have a look at the Scots, Japan and America as well.

Russia got kicked out during the qualification stage for having too many in-elligble South Africans in their team
