Bryce Gibbs: Making metres

How much has Bryce Gibbs improved this year?

When he played for us, you used to wait for him to turn around and run in the other
direction and gift the opposition a penalty. This guy is finally starting to hit the ball up
after 10 years. He has really benefited from a change of club.

It raises the question, has Gibbs had a lobotomy thereby lifting his IQ, or has his
new coach finally taught him which way to run?

In fairness to Gibbs, he stepped up last year after he was cut. That showed real
character. Being cut has helped him lift his game.

During the last 3 years 2009-11, he finished the season fantastic when the Tigers were coming home strong...no surprise he is doing the same again this year...

I still remember the anguish I felt around this time last year when they lost him and Fafita for Blair...

It seems to be have been well placed...

I always liked Gibbs. He is a real good player and I think the club made the wrong decisions with regards to signing Blair.

CT showing he has no idea again. Gibbs has been brilliant this season and the previous 2.

The penalties issue is a myth only the uneducated constantly drag up. Check the stats.

Really have to wonder if there is any clear plan concerning the make up of our team in WT front office, releasing Gibbs and Fifita for Blair has proven to be a disaster, not only financially, but ability and talent wise too.Who ever the culprit for this dud deal, needs to be punted and held accountable, stamped never to be involved in recruitment again......!

I have to agree , sorry CT but i feel he lost the penalty and bad discipline issues some years ago, and i believe he was great all year regardless of being cut . He was always a fantastic defencive prop but he has matured as a good metre eater as well and has delevoped a big hit when needed in the big games . Anyway lets not talk anymore about him , 99% knew he would be a huge loss so lets move on as im getting depressed thinking about why the f**k heads let him go for Adam Blah :(

A great prop. Easily the best defensive prop in the game. No surprise his yardage is through the roof now he has a coach that doesn't tell him to run soft and drop on contact. Still we have the hino hot shoe shuffle to look forward to

You have to also ask yourself why Heingno plays the way he does these days ? His style of game has definately changed for the worst over the last few seasons and im not convinced its all his doing .

I remember Gibbs running something like 60m to save a try, then kneed Luke Burt I
think in the back. I am glad to see the back of his stupid "who me" look on his face
every time he does something stupid. It is irritating watching him gunning it, but
trying to sign class players is something we should do. We took a risk, and it hasn't
gone very well. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

Perhaps the spastic in the coach's box wants him to do the 3 step waltz like the great man did on the dance floors of penrith in 1976

Any chance of pulling up his metres for the last three years so we can have a look.
You seem to have all the stats at your fingertips (and read far too much into them as well).

All too often (last three years included), the bigger teams make it look like men vs
boys. Unfortunately we are the boys. When push comes to shove, your props need
to be able to drive you upfield and get you out of trouble. Gibbs was a part of that
problem. In last years semi against the warriors, when we were being run over the top
of, our props had to get us downfield. Keith also goes missing at crucial times. I
can't remember if Gibbs was on during that period against the warriors or not, but
all too often Gibbs didn't make the metres we needed. Being a great defender doesn't
excuse him from hitting it up like Woods.

You don't think that should have been a penalty and suspension? Or you don't think
we should make a play for marquee players.
In all honesty i didnt believe at the time it was deliberate. And yes im in favour of marquee signings but i would target the areas where we are lacking. We made the semis the last 2 years and i think our forwards were more than adequate to do the the job so i wouldnt have screwed with our combination. A HALFBACK was what we needed to put them semi loses to bed when we were infront and we still need a halfback , and NOW some forwards as well to replace Gibbs and Fifita.

We still need a halfback, but we should never have got into that situation. When a team
tramples 80m every set your halfback can't save you. Benji should have closed it
out, but it should never have come to that.

I disagree our pack was adequate to get the job done.

With regards to Fifita if you believe the telegraph (which is pro Cronulla due to Rothfield)
they are non plussed by his attitude and he is unpopular with players. Of course you
should always be wary what you read in the telegraph. He looks like he is going to
tip his talent down the drain (if you believe what you read). He had a very wayward
youth as well (if you believe what you read)

We were about to acquire a problem in the back row ie. losing Ellis (possibly our best
player), so he tried to buy Blair, and it has backfired. Your prop for a prop argument
is doesn't work. Because of the cap, he could only solve the Ellis problem, leaving
the front row short, or Keep Gibbs and have a weak backrow.

I get this point of view. We really need a quality backrower and that is probably why we paid overs for Blair. We assumed he would take over from Ellis.

So far it is nothing more than a colossal f**k-up and it needs to be rectified. We need a pack of forwards who will get the job done on a consistent basis. I think our prop rotation is fine. I think our halves will be fine as well.

I think we need some speed out wide but young players will probably be able to fill in there.

We need a quality backrower like Ellis.
