Buderus to the Raiders???

Fight on to sign Danny Buderus
CANBERRA have emerged as a shock contender to snare Danny Buderus, who was widely believed to be headed back to Newcastle.
The homesick Leeds star was shopped to the Raiders six weeks ago and coach David Furner last night refused to rule out signing him.

"We have a few young good hookers we are really happy with," he said.

"There would be a lot of advantages with Danny and he would no doubt help them with his experience."

Buderus' agent George Mimis arrived in the north of England last weekend and will soon speak to the NSW Origin great about his future.

"I will meet him soon and see what he wants to do," Mimis said.

"He has an offer from Leeds so we will weigh things up."

We've got a feeling Bedsy might be back in the NRL before the June 30 cut-off.

FMD, that would eat the Knight's blokes up,seeing Captain Buderus calling the shot's in Green.

I am glad David Furner did not say no to a look.

to be honest, i hope you blokes get him over us at the knights. honestly, i can't see a role he could perform at the knights anymore without getting in the way. that sounds callous and harsh... but i believe you blokes are in a similar situation with Alan Tongue at the moment, so you should be able to relate to what i'm saying.

i love the bloke to bits... but he's only gone further backwards since he went to England... and that's through no fault of his skill or - his body is just showing the toll of his general lack of self preservation over a long career. sure, a little bit of me will be upset to see him pull on another NRL jersey... but we've been through all that before with Matty Johns, and the world keeps spinning.

i'm not sure Buderus has a quality 80 minutes in him at this stage of his career... but if you can get him at the right price you will quickly learn to love him. your players will respond to having him in the team and you will notice a lift in intensity across the park whenever he is on the field. his service from dummy half is, and always has been crisp in both directions, just ask Joey... he wouldn't tolerate sh*t service. obviously he will tackle himself to a stand still... jump on every loose ball and make every important cover tackle. in fact, at the back end of their careers i see a lot in common between Buderus and Tongue, the difference being that one is a highly decorated career hooker (something you blokes need in order to get some immediate value and to impart knowledge to your other hookers at the club) and one is a hard toiling lock masquerading as a fill-in hooker. both will bleed for whichever team they play for until the day they hang up the boots and i admire the sh*t out of both players.

honestly, if he goes to Canberra i will wish him all the best, and it will really bring a smile to my face if he helps your club to the finals and beyond. he owes my club nothing and gave us years and years of amazing service.

so yeah, good luck if yas do nab him, i think he can perform much greater service to your club than the knights at the moment... you blokes have far more pressing needs at hooker than we do.

Didn't he throw the ball back at Lee Jackson back in the day after one of many dire dummy half passes?

Hope we get Buderus. Waddell is still a fair bit off the pace IMO and it would hopefully kill any Tongue at hooker nonsense later in the year. The only negative I see is we'd probably have to back pay a large part of his contract in 2011.

I'd definately take him for the rest of this season, but nothing after that.

Buttris, Waddell and Mcilwrick for 2011.

Raiders deny plans to attract Buderus

Raiders chief executive Don Furner has angrily refuted suggestions his club is interested in recruiting former Newcastle hooker Danny Buderus.

A Sydney newspaper yesterday quoted Canberra coach David Furner saying Buderus would be of great help in developing young hookers Travis Waddell and Glen Buttriss.

The article also suggested the Raiders were interested in bringing the former NSW and Australian star who is currently playing for Leeds to Canberra next season.

Don Furner said the quotes had been taken out of context and the Raiders had no intention of making a play for the 32-year-old.

''Nobody has ever spoken to us about him, nobody has ever sent us an email or text about him, nobody has even mentioned his name,'' Furner said.

''We have never been interested in Danny Buderus and we aren't interested in him going forward.

''No disrespect to him, but I find it a little bit embarrassing that we would be linked to him.

''I don't know why his manager [George Mimis] would link us with him because it's a little bit disrespectful to him in my view.''

Good to know we won't be dissing Buderus with a contract offer  Why not just say something along the lines of we can't fit him in under the cap.

FMD what do we need for a vote of no confidence....

We are getting linked to anybody and everybody , the managers are whoring their players around and mentioning our club to bump up the prices.
Id be getting jacked at that as well.

Because we're never actually in the hunt for big names. Show some ambition for gods sake.

But its not all big names that we are getting linked to.

Im not sure what goes on in the club and Im sure must people here dont either.

Don has every right to refute these rumours , it can be de-stabilising the current squad.

Id like to get a big name as much as the next but Fitzhenry , Hannay , Barrett arent big names and Buderus is a former big name but Id be happy with him on board.

He came out and said he was happy to stay in UK and it was rumours.

I think he only would of come back to newcastle or cronulla anyway

Any update on the Buderus front? the rumours have gone cold on his possible return to AU.

Don Furner recently came out and said they werent interested and it was embarrassing to Buderus that his manager is hawking him out like a common prositute to anyone who will listen

Bedsy also quashed the rumours saying he is happy where he is and will see out his deal at the ESL club he's at (which one alludes me at this point of intoxication) and he'd never be able to bring himself to play against the Knights.

Id say that pretty much puts it to bed.
