CANTEBURY have stepped up their preparations for the 2008 season with the signing of test halfback Brett Kimmorley.
The 31-year-old Australian will move to the Bulldogs on a two-year contract from the Cronulla Sharks.
Kimmorley, who has over 200 NRL appearances to his name, is seen as a replacement for the departing Brent Sherwin for a lucrative multi-year deal with English club Castleford.
"Brett had a lot of experience in the NRL and of course, he has played in a Grand Final and represented his state and country'' said Dogs CEO Malcolm Noad. "He has a good pedigree and will be an excellent addition to our squad.
The announcement of Kimmorleys signing comes less than 24 hours after releasing Australia forward Willie Mason and just hours after confirming the release of Sherwin.
This places the Sharks as the frontrunners for the signature of Mason, 27, however they will still have to contend with the likes of the Sydney Roosters, North Queensland and English Super League club Hull who have also expressed interest in signing Mason, although the NRL's salary cap could be the most influential player in the damaging ball runner's immediate future.
Mason has indicated he would be keen on a move across town to the Roosters, although the chance to play under national coach Ricky Stuart at the Sharks may also be enticing to him.
Seems some journo likes to torture Sharks fans.
