Bully for bruv

Article from the SUN in england

By JULIE STOTT

FORMER Bradford boss Brian Smith is rooting for the Bulls’ downfall in Saturday’s Grand Final.

But only because all hell would break loose in his family if he did not.

The Australian’s kid brother, Tony, is the coach of Leeds — Bradford’s opponents at Old Trafford.

So not even the club’s special place in his heart — or his friendship with Bulls coach Brian ‘Nobby’ Noble — will stop him cheering on Leeds.

Brian, coach of Aussie side Parramatta, said: “I have a fantastic relationship with Nobby.

“He turned up out of the blue on my doorstep in Australia at the end of last year to see me.

“That was great. In any other circumstances, I’d want Nobby and Bradford to win.

“I still have an enormous soft spot for the Bulls but Tony is my blood brother and also my kindred spirit in many ways — and I’d love him to win.”

Brian, 49, gave Noble his first full-time assistant coaching job eight years ago while he was in charge at Bradford.

Noble continued under Brian’s successor Matthew Elliott before becoming the Bulls’ head coach as well as Great Britain boss.

He led them to the treble last year and steered Bradford to World Club Challenge glory this season. In contrast, Rhinos boss Tony, 37, is a relative novice and is aiming for the club’s first title in 32 YEARS.

Brian added: “I couldn’t tip the winner — but I do know it’s going to be a hell of a game — and it’s a sell-out.

“The way the British fans are, the whole place could lift off.”

Leeds have been the team all year, winning the minor premiership by 9 points, with only 2 regular season losses. But they failed to turn up in the semi two weeks ago and Bradford put a beating on them. And Leeds have a history of choking in finals games...

Saw Tony Smith and Brian Noble (Bradford/UK coach) interviewed together on the news here last night about the game. Tony claims he's not nervous despite lack of GF experience of him/players, while Noble says he and experienced players still get nervous everytime.

I hope brother Smith has done the homework for Leeds, otherwise I've got a feeling this could get ugly...
