Burt on the list as Warriors look around for new blood

The Warriors are believed to have Parramatta grand-final winger Luke Burt on their wish list.
The Auckland club contacted Burt's agent last month about the 28-year-old's contract status with the Eels.
He is off contract at the end of 2010 but could be released early due to salary-cap constraints.
The Warriors' recruitment and development manager, Dean Bell, was reluctant to comment about Burt yesterday but confirmed his name had been mentioned in discussions.
''We haven't been in contract discussions as such,'' Bell said. ''It's just a case that he is one of a number of players we have been looking at.''
Meanwhile, Tim Mortimer, brother of young Eels star Daniel, will train with the Eels' top squad after playing for feeder club Wentworthville this season.
''Tim has been invited to train and I'd be very happy if he joined me next season in first grade,'' Daniel Mortimer said.
The Mortimer clan, who own a winery in the state's Central West, had good reason to celebrate after the grand final despite the result, with their shiraz winning a gold medal at the Orange wine show.

Warriors eye wing Burt

BY AARON LAWTON - Sunday News Last updated 05:00 11/10/2009

THE Warriors' recruitment for the 2010 season might not be over with Parramatta Eels Grand Final winger Luke Burt thought to be the latest big name on their hit-list.
A month ago, the Auckland-based club got in contact with Burt's agent – Wayne Beavis – about the 28-year-old's contract status with the Eels.
He is off contract at the end of 2010 but could be released early due to salary cap constraints at the Eels.
New Warriors recruitment and development manager Dean Bell – a well-respected talent spotter – was reluctant to comment but confirmed Burt's name had been talked about.
"We haven't been in contract discussions as such," said Bell.
"It's just a case that he is one of a number of players we have been looking at. That's all I can say really."
Agent Beavis said he'd had no contact with the Warriors since Burt and the Eels made the NRL finals.
"They made a discreet inquiry about a month ago but I haven't heard anything since," he said.
"I think the Warriors were sweating on that (Eels' salary cap constraints) and were looking to maybe sign him for three years.
"Naturally, they've backed off because Luke was involved in the NRL finals.
"I haven't even asked him whether he would be keen to join the Warriors because I don't have anything on paper."
Bell said wing was still a position of interest for the Warriors.

Seems like everyone wants to snare him while they can. I really hope he resigns with Parra for a bit. I'd hate to see him in a any other jersey...

WERE being the operative word..don't know if it is still an option. Hope not.
The particular Club was interested in Inu, but the feeling wasn't mutual...

burt has knocked back plenty of offers in the past to stay at parra, i dont think he could see himself in anyother jersey other than parra its not just the fans feeling.

Bugger off, I for one would also like him to stay.

Let's hope he can hang around long enough to win a GF in the blue and golds.

I can't see an NRL club getting Burt to be honest. We get salary cap concessions for him so other clubs would have to pay him more in real terms. At his stage of career I reckon that's unlikely.

why is the storm and broncos never mentioned as having salary cap constrants yet have a host of rep players in their squad?

I think Burt would go to England before playing against us. I just can't imagine him playing for another NRL team

Brisbane, Gold Coast, North Queensland, Newcastle, Canberra and Warriors all have geographic economic advantages. It's always been known that Brisbane can afford to pay their players, usually the mid tier players, less because it's cheaper to live in Brisbane than it is in Sydney.
Melbourne on the other hand is about the same cost as Sydney but when you actually look at their squads per year, they have had massive turnovers in short periods and a lot of the players haven't left on amicable terms. Kimmorley, Orford, Hill, Bai, Swain, Howe, Folau. I fully expect them to have another turnover soon, started with Folau, but you could see more of their players want to move back to Queensland or NSW in Turner's case.

I'm pretty sure the salary cap concession was for 1 10 year player per club. At ours there are 3 so i don't think it would make any difference in regards to that.

the veteran exception is 100k as long as you have 1 player that triggers the exception, it then can be used on anybody, boosting the club cap effectively by 100k.

it isn't REALLY a veteran's exception as such
