Sharks lose Seymour for finals
September 17, 2008
SHARKS five eighth Brett Seymour will miss next Friday's preliminary NRL final and is expected to be ruled out for the season after sustaining a knee injury during training at Toyota Stadium on Tuesday.
Seymour is scheduled to undergo an arthroscope on the knee on Friday, however indications are that he could also require reconstructive surgery to repair the ligament damage.
Sharks coach Ricky Stuart, at a team training camp at Kiama, said Seymour's injury was a major blow to the team.
"I feel sorry for Brett. He'd been playing very well and was a big part of why our attack had improved in recent weeks. He'll be a big loss for us," Stuart said.
A potential replacement for Seymour has yet to be determined.
It's the second major loss for the Sharks in the crucial playmaker's role in recent weeks with Greg Bird stood down late last month after an alleged assault on his girlfriend.
The Sharks will play the winner of Saturday's match between Brisbane and Melbourne.
