By the time he hangs up his boots will Sam Burgess be the most suspended player in NRL history?

I love how the refs are playing Cartman Cop and demanding respect for their Authoritah, but then the old mates at the judiciary/MRC are slapping them with wet bus tickets.

Who’s the judiciary? Les Boyd, Johnny Lomax and John Hopoate?

No doubt in my mind. Both Sammy Boyle and Elliott Whitehead should have been marched. Yet old mate Whitehead got away with a tickle and a rub.

Nah. Was just a penalty. Boyd got named in the Australian squad that was selected following this match....

Different times. Well the end of different times anyway.

He only got suspended because Penrith cited him for the hit (Brohman was at penrith at the time). That is what lead to Boyd's suspension.

Anyway, interesting as this might be, we are getting off topic :)

The players of today never get the same long suspensions of the past, so it is hard to compare. They get fined for a trip that would cost you 6 weeks in the 90s.

They handed out months of suspension in the 80s, and if Burgess played even in the early 2000s, his cumulative record would see him getting 8 and 10 week suspensions (like Burns did) for relatively innocuous offenses,

There is too much money now for the NRL to want to wipe players out for a long time, and the really bad hits and tackles are mostly out of the game, so someone like Burgess can get away with crossing the line regularly a lot more than players of the past.

The huge suspensions are handed out to those who deliberately try to knock someone's head off or take out someone when they're exposed.

Burgess suspension is ok, he deliberately wanted to hurt sezer but not knock his head off, his timing was off.

Whitehead can count himself lucky- the bloke he snotted was vulnerable and unguarded. Our sourpuss captain was whinging about burgess and comparing it too the Sia hit on Slater when the Whitehead hit was more comparable to Sia's last year

For comparison.

In 2012 Graham got 12 weeks for biting slaters ear

In 1984 Boyd got 15 months for eye gouging Johnstone

You were watching rugby anyway

Johan Le Roux got 17 months for biting in 1994

Richard Loe elbowed Paul Carozza and then got 26 weeks for gouging in a club game

Steve Finnane - not sure if he ever was suspended or if not, how he avoided it
