I am the webmaster of the Era of the Biff website.
http://www.geocities.com/bringbackthebiffrugbyleague

I have a section in there called hardmen and heroes. I have
included Ray Price, Ken Thornett, Dick Thornett and Sterlo. From
these entries I have a section called your stories - it is your stories about
each player....
Does any of the blue and gold army out there have a story on
the above. It does not have to be a literary classic. Just tell it like
it happend.

There is a section called memorable matches. Do you have any
you wish to nominate. Or were you at one of the 20 plus games already
included. Were you at your first ever grand final victory.???
Were you there when they burnt down the cumberland oval grandstand?
I'd love to hear all about it.

The site relies heavily on stories contributed by you the supporters
who can relay their own stories about the players. Have you got
any stories or favorite pics of the above mentioned eels.

The website covers the Era of League History when Biff was part
and parcel of the game.

I would love to hear from you. All contributions are acknowledge.

Have a great Chrissy one and all.

How could you leave "Grumpy" out (Brian Hambly).

I have a few stories, but trying to remmember them, is another thing.

I'll do my best.

Thanks Twizzle.....

I look forward to hearing from you.

yeah I know Ive missed a few....Ron Lynch, Hambly, the bookends,

Ive just got to draw the line somewhere....but I am open to suggestions,
and if I get enough stories about a certain bloke I will definately include them. You can see some stories that Ive snuck in in Favorite moments.

I have only one recollection of Dick Thornett, but unfortunately Dick was on the receiving end. Ive included it in your stories on Dick.

Hey keep in touch...

I was there the night cumberland oval went up like a bonfire. It all started earlier in the day catching the bus from the leagues club (can't forget the blue and gold donuts) and travelling down parramatta rd with a highly emotional and well voiced bunch of supporters including my mate with the blue and gold bugle which frequently got blown out of the window, much to the disgust of other motorist who either didn't support the mighty eels or just didn't like rugby league.
I don't have to tell you how the day went, it was an absolute cracker and the bus trip home was hilarious as my mate with the bugle was annoying anyone that didn't have blue and gold streamers on their cars.
Arriving back at the leagues club loads of supporters made their way down to the oval and the rest as they say is history.

Thanks Noosa.

Was any one else out there in Parra Land present when the victorious hordes burnt down the famous Grandstand and reorganized Cumberland Oval.?????

If so I would love to hear your stories....and use them in the website.

Whether you know it or not, it was a famous part of the history of league, so why not have your version recorded -- drop me a post, or drop me an email.

I'd love to hear your account of the Night they burnt Cumberland.
It does not have to be a literary classic - just tell it (in some detail) like it happend.

Cheers Quigs and have a great Chrissy.

I remmember coming out of school the old Parra Marist, a roar from Cumberland Oval.

Waiting (or doing our homework) at the bustop, which was right outside the school yard. It was a Wednesday afternoon, about mid sixties, I think.

All of a sudden I heard this huge roar, from the vicinity of Cumberland Oval. Curiosity got the better of us, so we ran up the street to see what all the noise was about.

It was Cumberland Oval, full to the brim and overflowing.

It was traditional, back then for the touring pommie team to play the top team on the ladder, as a warm up game to the Ashes.

Although it was mid sixties, and the era of the dragon, it was also the era of "the mayor" (Ken Thornett).

A lot of leople said that the Eels were a one man team, they has just beaten the dragons a few round before hand, 29-16. The mayor had a blinder. As such, they now sat on top of the ladder, the maggies in third spot.

We could not get into Cumberland Oval, not to mention the fact that we would have missed the school bus.

When we got home we heard on the news that night that Parra had beaten the pommies, 39-18. Apparently our forwards won the game for us, Ron Lynch, Dick Thornett, and Brain Hambley

First the dragons, then the pomms, we could beat anyone.

Later that year the mayor was injured and we lost the major semi and the elimination semi, and did not even make it to the GF.

Saints beat the Magpies in a low scoring game. I remmember the magpies had two of the hardest heads that I've ever seen play the game. Noel "Ned" Kelly and Peter Diamond. Always played their best against the pommes.

Thanks for your great story Twizzle...

I have now included it in the "Your Stories" section of the Era of the Biff, you can see it through the links off the above section or off the link from the Mayors entry in Heroes and Hardmen...

Cheers and thanks, and have a ball tearer Christmas
