Calvin Johnson told family 2015 would be his final year and delivered same message to Jim Caldwell after season ended, sources told ESPN.

Dissapointing love to watch him play, only 30 too :(.

Lions will be in the market for a WR now.

I know the story went around after the season but I didn't believe it. Big shock, I guess if he couldn't be the best he didn't want to hang around. Great career.

Sad to see him go, it certainly appears this is becoming a trend, players will not have the same longevity as those in the past

Its due to an injury reoccurring apparently, in his ankle.
I'm not going to begrudge someone for choosing better quality of life over a few more years playing.

Sad that the league is losing one of the talented receivers to ever play the game, but damn am I happy he's out of the division.

Between enjoying all of your mental faculties and million of dollars while drinking out of coconuts on a beach vs getting lobotomized in the NFL I know which one I would choose

Some big names retiring this year, some expected (Woodson, P. Manning), others like Lynch and C Johnson, not so much.

Best of luck to them though.

Pretty gutted as a Lions fan. Don't begrudge him for calling it quits though, had 9 great years. Why run the risk of hobbling around when you're 40 just to squeeze out another couple of years.

As Golden Tate said, Bears, Packers and Vikings will be happy.
