Well love him or loathe him that sure was one hell of a gesture up on the podium. I believe he is a merkin that will do everything to win like our boys Gal and Ennis but is more polished in his off field persona. That speech and his words before that on field about the Shark fans though earned back in my eyes some of the respect he has lost with me over the years, he acknowledged how much it meant to us fans and the game of league at large to have the Sharks win, for once well done Cam Smith.

I really don't get the extreme smith hate

Sure he is guilty of some scummy things

But all top footy players are

And the speech was marvellous

He is smart and knows what people want to hear.

Can't stand the merkin and think he's a sneaky grub.

Obviously we have a spare hooking role and would have no complaints if he wanted to come across of course!

I thought the way he told us how we should enjoy the victory was slightly condescending.
Sneaky f**ker.
I didn't mind what he said
But ey
I wouldn't care what any capt of a team we'd just beaten in a GF said .

After just losing a grand final, that speech was as classy as could be.

The cynic might think it was an arse licking exercise from a sneaky prick...I could see a bit of that in it.

Nevertheless, it was a fine tribute to us.

I couldn't hear the speech at the game so Listened, and watched, all the speeches and celebrations yesterday.
I thought Smith was very genuine with his words to us, the fans.
And for the people saying that Gal wasn't gracious to the Storm should watch again, the first thing he does is speak of them.

Spot on.
I heard more of him that I could of Gallen at the ground, but probally the beer wax build up in my ears
He did well and made took the right road, I don't know how I would have gone after a loss like that.

Unlike most idiot footballers. Can smith realises that football isn't forever.
He has set himself up nicely for a job in commentary (on fox, won't be 9). Doing analysis etc.

A few well paid gigs as an after dinner speaker or doing motivational stuff and he has the easiest next 20 years mapped out.

Smart guy, great footballer, slimy merkin.

Like a lot of these guys, their off field persona is often directly opposite their on field persona. Just look at Ennis if you want a great example of this.

I thought his speech was great and not condescending at all.

I thought he had a bit of a dig at us when he made mention of his hope that there would be 'better quality footy played next year'

but i was at the ground and haven't watched the replay so i'd need to go over it.

If my suspicions are correct, i find it incredibly ironic.

Yup he showed class in his speech.

Maybe he can pass some of that on to the rest of team?

The rest of the storm players and officials etc. pretty much gave token hand shakes and I saw Gal working through the Storm team area and saw many people wearing Melbourne gear not even offer a hand to Gal.

I still hate the Storm with a passion.

Arrogant farkers.

He did say that. Bit of a headscratcher that one as the game was top draw quality. Does he think that Melbourne couldve played much better?

No, i personally thought he was having a shot at us for 'slowing the game down and wrestling/niggle'

Which is why i thought it was ironic.

Either way, sounded like a cheap shot/whinge

Which was then followed up by Bellamy claiming they were the best team all year + the minor premiership proved it, bashing the finals system ra ra ra.

Just a bunch of cheating crying merkins.

Not to mention they / Bellamy are directly responsible for the poor state of the game in relation to wrestle/gang tackle.

Worst thing for the game in the last 10 years is Craig Bellamy.

I think its def a shot at us ötherwise he wouldve said something like "hopefully we play better next year".
Didn't know about the Bellamy whinge.
